I'm importing products that come from various regions. A good portion of the names include accented text. The accents show in the CSV file, but they are removed when imported.

Hi,

Please check the encoding format of your file ; the best is to use UTF-8 encoding.

I have checked the encoding on the CSV file and the database, and they are both UTF-8.

Hi,

HikaShop will not remove any accent during the import of UTF8 files. HikaShop itself, and Joomla, are both fully UTF8. If you import a UTF8 file, the accents won't be removed.
So the only conclusion I can think of is that you think that the CSV you're trying to import is UTF8 when in fact it is not.

I took a second look at the way the file was being created. I have to use an Excel spreadsheet to build the import file, and if you don't save the file as Unicode Text, you don't actually encode.

Unicode basically means UTF8. And if you don't use it, it means that you use your local language encoding, which indeed explains why it didn't work.

I experienced the same issue when creating the CSV file directly from Excel (Mac OS version 2011). The issue can easily be solved by exporting the file as "Windows Comma Separated (.csv)". Other options do not seem to generate a proper UTF-8 file.
