Australa Post not calculating correctly

Thats right re the dimensions. What you change re the height will help

The problem I still have is that these 6 products are all the same and are stackable - so even though each one is 5cm in height, I can fit up to 8 in a box that is 11cm high which is cheaper than the calculation that Hika will get from Aussie Post as it will base it on 6 x 5cm height = 30cm which means the price will be higher.

If someone orders 8 - at 5cm height - Hika will base it on a height of 40cm which will be more than the 35cm high limit. But in reality, it would only be a total of 11cm in height as they can stack into each other.

Is there anyway around this particular situation?. I still think that I might need to do manual shipping for each postcode area of Australia Post - long and tedious but most accurate.

I'll adapt the Aupost group package algorithm and post the final Aupost shipping method version as soon as possible.

Hello,
Can you test it with this last version of the Aupost shipping method :

Each product is 41cm x 41cm x 5cm - and the weight is 0.25kg

As I said in my previous post :

I just checked the Australia post algorithm and it seems like packages can't exceed :
Length : 1050 mm
Width : 350 mm
Height : 350 mm

So for 6 products, you'll send 6 packages.

After checking that Australia post page : auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/size-and-weight-guidelines.html
I'll change the group package algorithm so that it will restrict the packages dimensions only regarding :
- The maximum dimension (1050 mm)
- The cubic meters for domestic destinations or the girth for international destinations.

Hi Mohamed
Wondering if there is an updated version of the plugin now, as it seems the one I have still has limits in it that are not in line with what works on the Australia Post website calculator.
ie dimensions can be up to 105 length, width, height, as long as cubic volume doesn't exceed .25.
these dimensions seem to work on tests on the australia post website auspost.com.au/apps/postage-calculator.html#fast
eg 105 x 105 x 22 (more than 22 and it then exceeds the volume limit)
or 105 x22 x105 etc

Hello,
Sure I've done some modification on that plugin since the last 4 months but not all the modifications are online for testing purpose, note that I've added that issue on our TODO list and that I'm actually working on it :).

Hi Mohamed
I'm happy to work on it, and send you back commented code, if you'd like to share your Beta

I'm still having issue trying to make the Australia Post calculate correctly.

If I have a product that is 0.38kg and it is going from postcode 3000 to 6008 and the product dimensions in the product in HIKA are 51cm length x 51cm width x 11cm high - at that weight the Australia post online calculator says $7.20. This matches up with HiKA.

The two problems are

1. Weight of the packaging is not taken into account. The cardboard box, plus the tapes, labels and some bubble wrap brings the total weight to just over 0.5kg. This then makes the product cost around $15.50. So Customer is charged only $7.20 with Hika and I lose $8.30.

I can't increase the kg of the product as this will make multiple purchases more expensive. How does anyone sort this out. How can we allow for packaging materials - boxes, tape, labels, bubble wrap, etc?

2. For the above dimensions, if someone orders 6 products with Hika - how does it add the dimensions up? If the width and length are the same for all products I assume it would leave this dimensions but if height is 11cm, then it would automatically assume that the 6 items together are 66cm tall. This is not correct in reality as they would all go in an 11cm high box.
For the dimensions above and only 11cm height but a 3kg weight for the postcodes above I get $36.85 as the Australia Post cost.
Hika would assume it is 66cm in height - this makes the total cost $143.60 so I would be losing a lot of money.

Is my assumption correct and does anyone have any ideas on ways around this. I could charge a standard fee regardless of how many products and could make money in some instances and lose a little bit in others but it's not ideal - especially when the customer gets the package and see the stamp cost on it lower than what they pay.

Postage is really driving me crazy

1.

I that case we should add a "Packaging materials weight/dimensions" which will add or restrict the size of packages which will be sent to Australia Post

2.

For the above dimensions, if someone orders 6 products with Hika - how does it add the dimensions up? If the width and length are the same for all products I assume it would leave this dimensions but if height is 11cm, then it would automatically assume that the 6 items together are 66cm tall. It will depends of your Aupost "Group products together" option, if you have set it to :
- NO : You'll have 1 product per package
- Yes : In your case if your order 6 products, the final package dimensions will be 51 x 51 x 66 (we always take two maximum dimension and sum the smaller dimension).

Is my assumption correct and does anyone have any ideas on ways around this. I could charge a standard fee regardless of how many products and could make money in some instances and lose a little bit in others but it's not ideal - especially when the customer gets the package and see the stamp cost on it lower than what they pay.

Note that you'll be able to do it by for example adding a static price on your shipping method OR using the "price per product" option and adding a custom shipping price for each product through the "Shipping prices" tab of your product configuration page.

Also, Note that I have changed a lot of things on the Aupost algorithm and I'm currently testing it to add it on other shipping method.

Just had another order through and have lost $10.00 with the same product as mentioned previously.

Have tried a lot of combinations - just can't get it to work. And the shop can't cater for large products and small products with the Australia Post plugin. Only way around it I can see is to only use Australia Post for small items and use manual shipping prices for large items. I will need to test this out and will be interested to see what happens if I order a small items which has australia Post and a larger item which is manual shipping in the same order.

"Note that you'll be able to do it by for example adding a static price on your shipping method OR using the "price per product" option and adding a custom shipping price for each product through the "Shipping prices" tab of your product configuration page."

What do you mean by static price or price per product? How does this work?

Static price : You'll just have to use the "Price" option of the shipping configuration page.
If you want a price per product you'll just have to :
- Use the "Use price per product" option of your shipping method configuration page
- Go to your product configuration page
- Set a shipping price / fee for your product through the "Shipping prices" tab of your product configuration page
