Hi,

I have a question about taxes. Here's my scenario. My product is subject to a Federal Excise tax of 10%. This tax is typically rolled into the pricing of the product. I've been successful with displaying the price with tax included. For example the product is $227.27 + 10% = $250. In addition to this tax, all NJ state residents will be required to pay a 7% sales tax. I'd like this tax to NOT be included in the price. Is there a way that I can have one tax included in the price and second tax included during checkout?

Sal

Hi,

Yes, that's possible.
In the HikaShop configuration, you have the "main tax zone" option where you can configure the zone which is used by the system for the calculations of the taxes, before the user login/register and HikaShop knows his address.
So in that setting, if you set another state than NJ, only the federal tax will apply to the prices for non logged in users.

Thanks for the response Nicolas. That does work, but I doubt my customer's will be logged out all of the time.

My fear is my customer's will not understand when they see the price that is normally $250 is now suddenly $267.50 when viewing the product, which will turn them off from making a purchase.

I wanted to use the separate excise tax charge for accounting purposes, so I can see exactly how much I collected in sales and how much of that I'll need to pay to the Federal Govt, but it may be easier to just make the actual price $250 for the product and classify the products for sales tracking and then just take 10% of that for tax purposes.

Hi,

What you can do is turn on the "floating tax prices" option of the Hikashop configuration.
That way, the price of the product will always be $250 and the taxes will be calculated out of that based on the location of the user.
