Tax only charged if ...

Hello all, I was wondering if there is a way to do the following:

1) Only charge tax if a customer's delivery address is in a specific state
2) Only show the tax charged as a line item in the shopping cart
3) Have the tax be $0.00 if the customer's delivery address is not in that state (ideally not have the line item show at all if the tax charged is $0.00)

Yes, you can do this. You'll have to set up your tax zones correctly but when you do, it works perfectly for what you describe.

By the way, we recommend putting a module block under the checkout to make sure that people in the taxed state are told why they are getting taxed. Something like this:

"Important Tax Information for Ohio Residents
Applicable for Ohio residents only: 8% Sales Tax will be applied to your order during checkout."

Thank you for that reply. If you don't mind, where do you put that note? Is it in the configuration of the tax in System > Taxes > note field of tax zone?

Hi all, I've been through everything I can think of, and I just can't seem to find where I can put this note so it shows up.

Is there a way to have this note be displayed with the tax line in the cart? if not, where can I go to have this note displayed?

Hello,
1. You'll be able to restrict your tax by using the "Zone" option of your Tax configuration page that you can find via "Hikashop->System->Taxes".

2. You can add that text through:
- one of the file of the "Checkout" view of your front-end template via "Hikashop->Display->Views"
Or
- the a Joomla content module that you'll display through your checkout page.

It will actually depends on how you want it to be displayed.
