Characteristics / variants problem possible bug

I think I found an issue that may need resolving.

I have set up a characteristic for my product.

I have also set up some variants for the characteristic.

I wanted to add some extra variants, but using the same characteristics.

So firstly I tried to add a new variant. I gave it a new product name and a new code, clicked save and it appears in my Variant list. I then click the "Go to main product" button to go back to my product - fine, but when I go back to "manage variants" the new variant I have added has disappeared.

At first I thought OK, may be I'm not supposed to add new variants (although there is an add button in the toolbar).

So I thought the way round this is to add characteristic which will cover all the characteristics and variants - not ideal, but it would solve the problem, however, testing this method I found an issue that may cause problems for me in the future.

Here's the problem with the characteristics method.

I added a new characteristic to my list. I went back to the product and clicked on "manage variants" I can see the original variants but the new characteristic does not automatically get added to the variants list. The only way I could get the new characteristic into my variant list was by deleting the characteristic in the product and then re-adding it. But doing this meant I lost all the information I had created for existing variants, which is obviously not good.

This wouldn't necessarily be a problem for a shop where I know all the characteristics when I set up all the products in the shop, but its possible for my shop I will want to add characteristics / variants in the future.

So for me at the moment this doesn't seem right. Is it a bug that I can't save variants based on common characteristics? or is it that I'm trying to do something the shop isn't designed to do.

I hope the above makes sense. And hope somebody can help me figure out how I solve the issues.

Hi there,

For you first problem, could you check you have the last Hikashop version? We just made a new release and it may solve your issue.
About the characteristics issue, you actually don't have to delete your variants when you create a new characteristics. Just add this characteristic again and your vairants will be updated with the new one keeping the old variants with their informations .

I'm on business version 2.2.0, which I updated this morning.

I've just done some further tests on adding variants.

The first test it saved and after going back to the product and clicking on "manage variants" it was still there.

Then I tried adding another one it gets added to the list at #0 and my previous one moves down to #1, but then when I go back to the product and click "manage variants" the last one I added has disappeared, the first one is still there, but is now #0.

I tried a second test - I deleted the first new variant #0, and then simply tried adding a new variant. This saved and after going back to products and clicking "manage variants" it was still there.

Could it be something to do with the new variant being added to the top of the list rather than to the bottom, ie its being given #0 rather than the next number in the list, which in my case should be #6. I'm not a programmer so not sure where I would find this if it is the issue.

I've attached a screen shot so you can see what I mean.
