Hi,

I'm afraid I'm pretty confused with how this all works and it seems that the existing documentation is based on Joomla 1.5.

I am running Joomla 1.6 with the Business version.

I am trying to set up the following website: marengojewellery.co.uk

As you will see I have a menu running across the top of the page.

When I click on the Store menu item all that I want to do is have a list of my categories down the left hand side and the products displayed in the right hand column. When I click on a category (in the left hand menu) I want the menu to remain and then have the products for that category displayed (in a grid) in the right hand column.

Can anyone guide me on how to achieve this?

Many thanks in advance for any help.
Tom

What you did is create a listing of categories. So it displays a listing of categories on the main area of your website and then you can access the products in these categories which will be displayed in the main area.

What you want to do is create a module to list your categories and assign your module to the left position of your template. Upon clicking on a category, the products listing of that category will be displayed on the main area and the module will still be displayed on the left position of your template. So you want to follow the last part of the content display tutorial with the title "Categories with a module" on that page:

Hi, Thanks for the speedy response!!

I have tried this but it doesn't seem to be working very well (lots of 404 errors).

When I click on the Store menu item (in the top menu) I initially want to see a list of the products in the featured category with the category list menu down the side. When I click on one of the categories in the side menu I want to see the products for that category and also keep the left-hand category list remaining visible.

In your listing of categories module, you need to select a menu of the type hikashop category listing in the "menu" hikashop option. That should help solve the 404 errors.

Perhaps I am getting closer to the solution...

I can list the featured products on the initial entry into the store tab and the categories display down the left hand side.

However, the category menu doesn't display anything when clicked on - eg it should display a pendant if you click on pendants. Also, the menu vanishes when you click on one of the categories. How do you make it remain?

Thanks again for looking into this...

I can see that you affected the menu with the id 149 and that menu is a category listing menu. So that's good.
You have two things left missing:
1. You need to deactivate the synchronization on your category listing module so that the category listing module displays always the same category listing and also make sure that this module is displayed for the menu with the id 149.
2. You need to edit the hikashop options of the menu 149 and deactivate the associated modules and save the settings. That will display a message to create an associated module with the good values.
