Download PDF questions

Hello. I am getting close to figuring all of this out, but still have some loose ends. . .

    The download PDF is not working. I got a receipt, with the product information, but did not receive a link to the downloads.
    How can I change the shipping so it doesn't include my download files in the total cost? Shipping is $3.99 up to $40, but downloads should not count towards that total

Hi,

If you didn't get the link to your order details, then, maybe that's because you set the "registration" option to "no registration" ? Since the download and the display of the order requires an authentication, the link to the order is only sent if you use "simplified registration" or "registration".

Please make sure that the products with downloadable files don't have a weight. They will only be counted for shipping if they have a weight, unless you turned on the option "Force shipping regardless of weight" in the config.

Thanks so much. Is the registration option only available in paid options? I am still working on the free option until I am sure it can do everything I need (VERY close to purchase!! -- great product).

I saw "registration" under config/checkout. Is there another location?

If you use the free version, then you're safe as it behaves as "registration".

So you should have the link in the email you got when ordering. The link goes to the order details page where you can download the products.

Thanks. I previously changed the registration option in the main Joomla site, because I did not want the user to get disrupted during the checkout process to check his email for account information and verification.

So, I changed it New Account Activation back to "Yes".

But, during testing, I clicked on the email that I received to activate my account from the Hikashop checkout and then when I go back to the site, the shopping cart is empty. I still think that I will change my settings to "Simplified Registration" when I purchase Hikashop because I don't like the disruption. But now I am concerned that there is a problem with the system since the cart becomes empty after clicking the link.

Can you tell me if I did anything wrong?

Now I am having another issue.

The timing of the emails is strange.

See the enclosed images.

As a customer, I am getting a receipt before notification that the order was created or confirmed. Shouldn't the final receipt be AFTER the creation and confirmation of the order?

Also, maybe I am misunderstanding how this works, but there is no link directly to the EBook download on the receipt. The link to the EBook isn't active. I can get to the download by selecting the link on the "Order Created" email. (as the customer I am "administrator" in case that is confusing)

So, the order of the emails seems backwards. I get the confirmed emails AFTER the receipt email. On the receipt email there is no link to the EBook.

I am hoping that the name of the EBook is linked to the download on the receipt. Is this possible?

Please advise.

If you don't get the emails in the good order it's because your email server is queueing your emails before sending them. HikaShop correctly sends first the creation of the order notification and only then the confirmation.
In the confirmation AND in the creation email, you get a link to the order details where you can download the files.

There is no option to directly have the link to the product files in the email. It's not impossible if you know your way around in php...

Is there any way to edit the email so I can explain this to my customers? I might look into the php option later, but for now a description would be sufficient.

Also, in my config I designated "embed files" to give customers the files in their emails and this isn't working. This would solve the problem above.

Emails can be edited via the menu System->Emails in the Business edition (you can see that in the demo website if your want).

The embed files option enables you to choose whether to add attachments to emails or to just have a link in the email.
By default, there is no attachments in the emails of hikashop so this option shouldn't change anything.

Not sure how to do that besides adding .pdf files to the product page associated with the EBook.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW, I just bought the Business Edition. Very impressed with your product and support.

Hopefully you are not sick of me yet, I will have lots more questions!! :)

Attachments to emails and products files are two different things.
This option has no effect on product files.
Attachments to emails can be added via the menu System->Emails when you edit an email. That enable you to always attach something to your emails.
Products files are not sent via emails but are to be downloaded on the order details page.

Hi Nicolas,
Can you assist me a bit more.
I am trying to figure out how to add a more obvious link on the receipt to either:

1) go to the order details page on my site to see the details of their order to download their pdf
2) have a the product linked in the email so they can select the link and it will download the file

Either way, I am not sure how to change the text so I can add instructions. I know it is in php, but I don't know that. Is there anyway you can help give me some basic suggestions on how to do it?

I am using the business edition.

I am not sure if it is possible, but it would be perfect if the system knew there was an EBook order and added:

"Thanks for your order, please login and go to your order details to download your EBook. Select THIS LINK to go to the order details page."

or

"Thanks for your order, please select THIS LINK to download your EBook."(It would then take the user to the login page)


If the logic can't be used like that, than it can say:

"Thanks for your order. If you ordered an EBook, you can select THIS LINK to go to your order details page and download your EBook."

If you only sell ebooks, you can just go in the config under the tab languages and change the translation of :
ORDER_STATUS_CHANGED_TO="The status of your order No. %s has been changed to %s."

Otherwise, you can edit the emails via the menu System->Emails. But that's way more complicated as you need to first load the files of the products in the cart from the database and if you find a file, you need to add the link to the order page.

How about just saying:

"Thanks for your order. If you ordered an EBook, you can select THIS LINK to go to your order details page and download your EBook."

Then it would send the user to their Order Details where they can see the EBook link???

Yes, you could change the message:
ORDER_STATUS_CHANGED_TO="The status of your order No. %s has been changed to %s."

to something like:
ORDER_STATUS_CHANGED_TO="Thanks for your order. If you ordered an EBook, you can download it on your order details page %s."

I can't get this to work.

I successfully changed "return to your shop" to "return to Watch and Train" so I know I am able to change the files, but I can't get your suggestion for the EBook to send to the order details page to work.

Also, after it goes from Authorize and PayPal, can I send it directly to the order details page on the site? watchandtrain.fatcow.com/YourShop/accoun...d-order-details.html

Right now it goes to the home page.

I am also having trouble with the shipping.

I have one product that doesn't weigh much and I want to charge 2.50 for shipping. It costs $6.00

I have shipping options of 0-6.00 = $2.50 and 6.01 for 3.99

When I add just the 6.00 product the shipping = $2.50 which is correct.

When I add an EBook without any weight, the shipping jumps to $3.99 when it should stay at $2.50

The translation modification should work. If it doesn't appear in the email, it means that you didn't apply it correctly to the translation override.

For the return page, in both payment plugins, you can specific the return URL in order to do that.

Are you sure that you didn't put a weight in the ebook information ?
