Need to list categories

Hi, I know this is a very basic question, but I am totally new to this cart so any help would be great. I'm simply trying to add a list of categories on the left side as a navigation. I'm used to using Virtuemart and they have a module for the cart that also lists all the categories, is this possible with Hikashop?
