I am trying to make the checkout process as easy as possible, is there a way for users to not have to Login/Register and just proceed to checkout as a guest? I want to leave Login/Reg there as an optional signup though, please let me know!

Hi, I am also looking for this option as most people are in a hurry when they are shopping and I think it's very important to allow them to checkout without making them join your site and confirm an email, as this can take some time and they might not even get the email due to spam blockers. Please let us know if this is possible, thanks.

Hi,

You have a lot of possibilities:
First, the confirmation email can be deactivated. The confirmation email is sent based on the user account activation policy you set in joomla (in the config on joomla 1.5), in the joomla user manager's options on joomla 1.6
When you turn off that option, users registering will be able to to continue the order process without having to check their emails.

Second, you can remove the joomla account creation. That can be done by changing the option "registration" to "no registration" in the config of hikashop in the commercial editions. In that case, only the email address and the address of the user will be asked.

Third, you can remove the login and address views from the 'checkout workflow' option of the hikashop configuration so that no information is asked from your users during the checkout.

Thanks Nicolas, since there isn't a built-in option for Checkout as Guest, is that why a login is required before the address fields will show? I tried using 'login_address' as the first step of checkout process, but it still splits it into two steps, you must be logged in to see the address section. Is this right? or is there a workaround?

The addresses are linked to the user record in the database. So when the address view has to be displayed, if the user is not logged in it doesn't display itself. If the user is logged in, it loads the user addressed so that the user can select between the different addresses.
The login view is only displayed when the user is not logged in. When he is logged in, it doesn't display anything.
So that's why the login_address step looks like two steps.
What you can do is to put the address view on another step (with the shipping for example). In that case, when the user logs in it goes directly to the next step.

Is there a way for users to just enter address without logging in? Or is this available only in commercial edition?

Also - On the third option you stated above, removing Login and Address would only leave Shipping and Payment? But there would be no shipping address? Is that expected behavior or am I missing something?

Yes, it's only possible with the commercial edition:

you can remove the joomla account creation. That can be done by changing the option "registration" to "no registration" in the config of hikashop in the commercial editions. In that case, only the email address and the address of the user will be asked.

Indeed, there would be no shipping address. It's the expected behavior. When you sell digital goods, you might not want to ask the address of the user in order to increase the conversion rate as you don't need it for the sale. Also, some users will use the address collected by paypal or moneybookers and they don't want hikashop to collect it. In both cases, it's a valid use of that third option.

Hello Nicolas,

I am using this checkout workflow "cart,login,address,payment_shipping_terms_confirm,end" and do have the registration setup to "no registration". When I get to my second step of the checkout I can either login or register to get to my third step which is the shipping and billing address (I understand that when I am logged in it pulls out those information from the database). I still don't see how I can setup hikashop to give me the option in my second step to checkout as a guest and get to my third step to enter the address without having to be logged in or register. I am using the businees version of hikashop.Thank you

Hi,

Please look closer to your second step. There should be no username/password field. When you fill the registration form, it actually won't create you a new account. It's just that the wording is the same. If you feel uncomfortable with that, you can override the text as explained there:

I would like the customer in the second step to have an option to either if he is an existing customer to login or if not than to register or checkout as a a guest. I understand the wording thing and also removing username/password field from the form., but what about the option to register? I do not have the option to register there only the login window and the form to checkout as a guest. Thank you

If you want an option for the customer to register, you can just put a link to the joomla user registration page. Than can either be done by adding your HTML link in the file registration of the view user via the menu Display->Views or with a joomla menu item of the type user registration.

Any changes after one year?

Hi,

on my page I want a option for the user to registrate or not, like is common thing on other sites. I don't want disable the nice HikaShop-Joomla-registration - only it would be useful to have a choise-button on the right of the login/register-site (see the attached screenshot or have a look on my test-site: www.nicething.de/nicething/ ).
It would be nice, that the user can order products on a short simple way.

Is there a solution for this?

Thanks,
j.

Not yet.

We can't do everything but we already did a lot of other things in the past year.

We'll come to it eventually.
