Google Merchant Data Feed

Recently purchased Essentials and wondered whether there is any intention to provide a Google Merchant Data Feed facility to create / upload a delimited file with all the relevant information required by Google Merchant? ( www.google.com/support/merchants/bin/answer.py?answer=188478 )

I realize this could be done manually by exporting and manipulating data in Excel, or similar, but much of this could be automated.

There is no solution for it yet. That's something we want to add to HikaShop in the near future.

I notice that 1.5.1 has a Google products plugin - is this the solution for the Google Merchant Data Feed?

If so,what does the, 'commercial editions' comment on the Change Log refer to? I have Essentials, but cannot see this feature...

Apologies - now found the plugin and set the parameters (including Auto Update) - how is this triggered?

You need to setup your cron task in the configuration of HikaShop so that it can publish automatically the feed to google.

Where is the XML file stored? I have tried to submit this feed, but get XML formatting errors. I would like to see the file to try to determine what needs to be corrected.

How does the 'Download' feature work on the plugin? That way I could get the xml file and manually upload it.

Thanks in anticipation!

Alan

The XML file is not stored. It's directly sent to google.
You can download it by clicking on the trigger link in the options of the plugin.

Sorry - I don't see the trigger link! When I go to the Plugin Manager options - there is a field to name the download file, but no trigger link...

Could you do a screenshot ?
The trigger link is the last option of the plugin: www.hikashop.com/en/support/documentatio...google-products.html

It seems that a file is missing for joomla 1.6
Please upload the file in the archive enclosed in the folder components/com_hikashop/fields/ via FTP and try again.

File Name: plugintrigger.zip

Hi, thanks for the prompt response. Tried unzipping the file and uploaded as requested. Now there is no field to specify the name for the download file but the field label is still there, and still no trigger link. :(

Please try to edit that file and change the line:
$id = hikashop::getCID('id');

to:
$id = hikashop::getCID('extension_id');

and try again

Sorry to be a nuisance! Still exactly the same.

As an aside - the main reason I am trying to download the file, is because I get an error in the Google Merchant Cnter with an invalid price attribute...

I can see the link on my end with these modifications. However, it's on the top right corner instead of being placed next to the download label because of the way the CSS of the default template of joomla 1.6 is done in the back end.
We'll change a bit the code of that file so that it goes at the correct position. But you shoudl already be able to use the link.

HikaShop should use your main currency (configured in the configuration page of hikashop) which generating the data feed for google. Is that the case ?

'fraid not!

Having done a find and replace on that and a manual upload, it is still not right. Only adding 2 of 3 products, but there are >300 items in the shop, and on the file.

More investigation required... (tomorrow!!!)

Found a culprit: an unescaped ampersand in the Product type

<g:product_type>"Manufacturers > Jay-be","Sofas & Folding Beds > Folding Beds"</g:product_type>

Also some stray characters preceding the pound sign within the descriptions:

"...finest Scandinavian pine.4 DRAWER TALL: £219.50 5 DRAWER TALL: £269.50..."
