Ok, I don't understand the shipping part at all.

Isn't there a way for shipping to be figured out automatically?
I have way too many products to go in an enter shipping for each item.

I'm using paypal as my processor. Can't paypal figure out shipping? If so, how do I go about doing that?

There is no option to set a shipping price for each products in HikaShop.
When you configure your shipping methods, you set restrictions on weight so that for example you have something like that:
from 0 to 2kg => $10
from 2kg to 4kg => $20

Then, in your products, you set the weight of the product and during the checkout, the total weight of the order is calculated and only the relevant shipping methods are displayed.
Isn't that what you want to do ?

If you want to use the shipping in paypal there are some options for that on your paypal account. There are some drawbacks though... Since the paid amount is different than the amount of the order before going to paypal, HikaShop won't be able to confirm the order automatically with the payment notification coming from paypal and you will have to confirm your orders manually.

Hmm, I just contacted my drop shipper. They charge shipping by weight AND distance. Is there a way to do that?
We're in the states BTW. So, the warehouse is in...Ohio I think.

How can I get it to figure out that an items that weights 1lb 4oz going to california would cost?

Can this be done?

Yes.

Like for the weight restrictions, you have zone restrictions when you create/edit shipping methods.
So you will be able to do that:
from 0 to 2kg for california => $10
from 0 to 2kg for new york => $12
from 0 to 2kg for texas => $14
from 2kg to 4kg for california => $20
from 2kg to 4kg for new york => $24
from 2kg to 4kg for texas => $28
...etc...

If you have the same fees for several states/countries, you can create a new zone with all these states/countries as subzones of that zone via the menu System->Zones. Then, you can use that zone in your shipping method. That way you can group the rates together and greatly reduce the number of shipping methods to enter.

You need to drag yourself into the 21st century and start using g's and kg's. ;)

You should also talk to your shipper about provding an API for developers to use with their shopping carts if you want it totally automatic. The problem with this is that each customer often has a different rate depending on the size of their account which is why it is usually only the postal services that provide APIs, although annoyingly still not all of them.

On a side note, kg, g, mg (yes!), oz, lb, ozt are all supported in HikaShop.
