newbie making progress

my site is very basic with just an handful of products and therefore only one category. I like the display of the products with images and descriptions when the "type of content" is "category" in the menu options - however I would prefer if users/customers didn't have the extra step of clicking on the "category" after selecting the link to shop from my main menu. Does that make sense? If I set the "type of content" to "product", the link from the main menu takes them directly to a product listing, however the product listing only has the image, price and "add to cart" - they don't get the name or description until they click on the item.

Thank you. I thought I had clicked on everything possible in the "content menu". I changed the "type of content" to "product" and the "type of layout" to "table" and this produces very close to the results.

Is there a way to add the "Description" to the table view layout? I have the buttons next to "show image" and "show description" selected, but the "description" only displays after selecting a product.
