Give buyers access to downloadable files

Hello,

This is a question on how to give buyers access to downloadable files after the purchase has been made in PayPal.

What URL should I use to re-direct buyers back to my website after a purchase is made so that they are able to get access to the downloadable files.

At the moment I send them back to the product page - but of course no files are there.

Are there some specific settings I must put in place?

I am only testing on a local machine at the moment using the PayPal Sandbox, which is working OK.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Robin

You need to go in your joomla menu manager and create a menu of the type hikashop order listing on your front end. You can give the URL of that menu to paypal. That will redirect the user to the listing of his orders and if he opens his order, he will see the link to download his files once the order is confirmed.

Hello Nicolas,

Couldn't find a hikashop order listing menu option, the available list was as follows:
User addresses
Categories listing
Checkout
Customer orders
Products listing
Product page
User control panel
Registration form

I used the Customer Orders menu option. After making the purchase in PayPal the return URL now brings the user back to the Orders page showing the list of orders.

By the way the Order Status column in that list has "Created" for all the orders.

When I click on the latest Order Number the Order page opens and I can see the Billing Address panel and the Product List table.

The Files column in that table is empty - don't know if that is significant or not.

I don't see any links to the downloadable files.

Could the fact that I am testing on a local machine - and not on a live site - somehow prevent the link from being created.

Thanks for your assistance.

Kind regards,
Robin

Yes. When you're on localhost, paypal cannot notify your website that the payment is validated. So the order is not confirmed automatically. And so the links are not displayed.

You can manually change the order status to confirmed on the back end, if you want to see the result.
