Hi - I downloaded the free version of HikaShop to test on a Joomla 1.6 site because VirtueMart is not yet available for J 1.6. I do not yet know much about your product; however, I can say it is substantially different than VirtueMart. :) My question is about the documentation for HikaShop, as it seems to only be available for Joomla 1.5. Is there a version of your documentation that is more clear with regards to configuring it in Joomla 1.6? Thank you!

EDIT: Marked as solved because my issue was resolved. However, currently there is no Joomla 1.6-specific documentation for HikaShop. Please note that while I needed it, you may not.

Hi,

The screenshots in the documentation were indeed made mainly on joomla 1.5
The explanation texts are however the same for both joomla 1.5 and joomla 1.6 so you should be able to apply it to your case.
If you have questions, you can always ask on the forum if you don't find the answer in the documentation.

Hello nicolas - Thank you for the prompt reply. Unfortunately, the directions are not that clear, at least for me.

I created three categories, then added one test product to each. While attempting to list the categories via a menu link, I somehow created one vertical (1 column) and one horizontal (3 columns) list. While trying to remove one of those, I somehow managed to create a second horizontal category list. So now I have two horizontal categories lists, and I really only need one.

In the categories there is one product assigned to each. No matter what I have tried, I cannot get the products displayed on the frontend. Is there a step-by-step guide for Joomla 1.6 that I can follow to setup my site? At this point I plan to completely uninstall HikaShop, reinstall it and follow any steps I am given, or search for another solution. I am not saying your product is bad, it just seems to be much different than what I am used to working with when it comes to initial configuration. Thanks again!

We have a tutorial which explains how to create a menu to list your categories:
www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/6...html#categories_menu

If you have a problem following that tutorial, please post a link to your menu so that we can see what you did and guide you to the solution.

Hi - I followed that tutorial. I guess where I am having trouble is when I am adding the menu item, I pick the type and name it, then save it so I can choose the HikaShop options, and then I get confused. Where/how do I select which products to display? I see nowhere that allows me to make this selection.

I can send you the link to the site; however, it is under development and not ready for public consumption, so I would need a way to get it to you privately.

In the HikaShop options of your menu, you have the option "parent category" where you can select the main category that will be used to display your products or categories. By default, it's the "product category" category which is the main category in HikaShop. Which means that by default, it will display directly the products (or the categories) attached to the main category.

You should click on the Help button on that page. That will display you the help related to the page where you will have some explanation for each option of that page.

If you want to send us a link to your menu in private, you should use our contact form.

Hi - I uninstalled and dropped all tables, then reinstalled. I then added the same three categories and products. I made a couple of minor changes during my setup this time, like Sub elements filter (to All, not direct) and Associated Modules (automatically suggested? during menu adding). However, the 'help' button you suggested did not bring up context help as I expected, instead it linked me to documentation I had already read, and not necessarily for the page I was on. Just some feedback there. :)

Anyway, I will close this topic as resolved, although I will now open another to report an issue I found. Thanks again!
