menu item for each category

You can do like that: www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/6...ml#categories_module
That will create a list of categories in a module that you can display as a menu on a side of your template. All the links will lead to the same menu item.
If you want to have one menu item per category, you would have to do like that:
www.hikashop.com/support/documentation/6...html#categories_menu
for each of your categories.
It depends on your needs but the first solution should be faster
