The site is using multi-language functions built into joomla 1.7.0 core with menu item association, what can i do with HIKASHOP to make the specified language remain whilst in the hikashop area of the site ?

The interface of HikaShop should automatically use the appropriate language.
For the content (products and categories), there is no multi language support yet for joomla 1.6/1.7 which means that you need to create several category trees (one per language) and have duplicate products, one per tree so that you can enter the translation of the name and description. Then, you can create several menus, one per language, and select the main category of the tree and limit that menu to the corresponding language.

I follow you on the duplicates, this would of course give the correct end-result. How should HIKASHOP component respond if in 1.7 the user is in the first stage of checkout, and they switch language ? At the moment it switches back to the language home page rather than the checkout in the alternative language ?

in J!1.5 there is/was an option ? Any ETA or roadmap for equivalent function(s) for 1.7 ?

If the user switch the language to "language 2" and already has "language 1" products in the cart, the products name will still be in the cart and in "language 1". There is nothing to handle the switch of languages. It will stay on the same page.

On Joomla 1.5, there is a compatibility with JoomFish and you can directly translate your products' information and everything will work properly without duplicating products or the likes. For Joomla 1.6/1.7, we're basically waiting for JoomFish to release their first Joomla 1.6/1.7 compatible version in order to have the same functionality. Reading the JoomFish forum for information, it seems there is already a first version compatible. We should see something out soon hopefully.
