Shipping Rate by ZIP

Hikashop is great!

However, I absolutely need the possibility to automatically calculate the shipping cost according to the ZIP code.

I am a VirtueMart fan, but I am running into a wall right now, because they're software isn't running on Joomla 1.7 and the beta version they published really isn't working.

Hikashop looks very promising and needs just a couple of things to blow them out of the water.

Shipping costs according to the ZIP code is my main problem!

Do you think you will add this functionality anytime soon?

Currently, there is no shopping cart software that will run on Joomla 1.7 that has this capability, and I am sure that many people out there like me are trying to satisfy their customers with the latest Joomla 1.7, but can't deliver an ecommerce site!

Help!

Thanks.

Hi,

That possibility is already in HikaShop.
When you create a manual shipping method via System->Shipping methods, you can set a post code range . That way, you can have one shipping method with its rate, for each post code range you need to handle. When the user enters his address on the front end, he will only see the shipping methods with a post code range which includes his post code.

I wasn't seeing this menu because I was using the Mission Control template (from RocketTheme) for the admin section. Now that I have changed back to the original Joomla admin theme, I can see the menus!

Thanks!

New problem: in Italy, we have ZIP codes that refer to more than one location. (Strange but true).

Sometimes, the different locations can be 30-50 km away, and the carriers make a difference in their pricing.

So defining rates according to a ZIP code is tricky because that would mean that ALL areas using that ZIP code would get the same shipping rate, when actually, the rate is different for each town using the common ZIP code. (I hope that's not confusing).

I think this is due to the fact that we have islands and strange jurisdictions where shipping takes more time and different procedures to deliver the package.

Having some experience in logistics (I built logistics software in the past), rates are determined by specific cities/towns and not by ZIP code.

Therefore, is there anyway I can determine a shipping rate according to the Country+Province+City/Town ?

Thanks!

In the shipping methods, you can restrict them by a zone. That zone can be a country or a state/province.
In addition, you can refine that with zip codes.
That way you could have a shipping method for zip code 11111 in state 1 and another shipping method for the same zip code 11111, but for another state, state 2.

Now if you want different shipping methods for places with the same zip code in the same province, that's not possible with the current solution as we didn't know that is was something possible.

Thanks for your help and explanation. It is not expected of you to "know everything", of course!

Let me show you a typical situation we have here in Italy.

For example, both these locations below have the same zip code (98050) within the same province of Messina. The problem is that the island has a different shipping rate.

maps.google.it/maps?q=Fondachelli-Fantin...715&vpsrc=6&t=m&z=10

maps.google.it/maps?q=Panarea,+Lipari&hl...2715&vpsrc=6&t=m&z=9

They are both in the same province of Messina, Italy.

The only way I am going to be able to distinguish one from the other is from the name of the City.

I know this is not possible right now, I just hope that in the future you will be able to add the City as a filter.

In the meantime, everybody in the same ZIP code is going to have to pay for the higher shipping rate (for the island).

:)

Ciao,
Robert

Thank you for your explanation. We'll add that to the todo list as a low priority.
