Hi Im having problems assigning DISCOUNTS to categories of products.

I need to add a discount so that if any product from category X is purchased a discount is applied, if 2 items are purchased (2 x discount is applied)...

At the moment Im getting "The discount code you entered is not valid" even when I cut and paste the code directly from the backend of the system into the front...
If I switch to this setup to a coupon the same code works.

Have attached a screenshot of my setup as a discount

Discounts are applied automatically to the prices of products, so the code you put there is only there so that you can search them more easily.
It allows you to do a price display like on that page of our demo website:
www.demo.hikashop.com/index.php?option=c...e=&Itemid=78&lang=en
Coupons on the other end are applied to the order only when the customer enters the code in the checkout.
So what you're experiencing is normal.

Many thanks for getting back to me, might I ask if anyone else has reported finding that discount codes arent matching even when you cut and paste the code directly from the backend into the frontend cart? Im assuming if I assign a discount to a category any product within the category should allow the discount to be applied? At present when assigning a discount to a category, and then attempt to use the discount code I keep getting the message "The discount code you entered is not valid"

This relates to the image of the discount setup above

Many thanks

Kate

Please reread my message.
Only COUPON codes can be entered there.
So if you enter a discount code there it's normal that it doesn't work. The discounts are applied automatically to the products prices without entering anything.

Thanks Nicholas, it makes sense now having compared the operation of the demo site really made me realise doesnt work in the way Id hoped. Back to the drawing board. Many thanks for reclarifying and your assistance.

Much appreciated
