Configuring coupons

Hi Nicolas,

I'm just trying to configure gift certificates for a site (using Business ed 1.5.4). Just have some questions and a possible bug ...

1. To allow buyers to purchase a gift certificate for use in the store at a later date and possibly by someone else, is this the best scenario for management?

a) Set up the "certificates" as products. eg: Product 1 = $100 coupon, product 2 = $50 coupon
b) When purchased, set up a coupon for that order as a single use coupon for the value purchased?
c) Advise the buyer what the code is, to be entered in the coupon field during checkout.

2. I want my coupons to be valid store wide. What do I put in the Product & Category selections? If I leave them as is (ie: no product or category selected), will the coupon be applied to the total cart regardless of what's in the cart?

3. What does "Auto load in cart if possible" mean/do? In the help it says "...When turned on, the system will load the coupon in the cart on the checkout if the coupon restrictions are matched without your customers having to enter its code". Could you explain a little further as I don't get how this works? How does the system know what coupon to load?

4. In the back end for the discount/coupon page the date fields don't seem to be available as a popup. ie: if you click on the calendar icon nothing happens.

Thanks heaps!

Hi,

1. That's indeed the way to handle it.

2. Yes, it will be applied to the total. Coupons are always applied to the total of the cart.

3. When going on the checkout, the system will load all the coupons with that option activated which can applied to the current user with the current products and restrictions. Then, in that valid pool of auto loaded coupons, it will select the coupon with the greatest value and apply it to the cart.

4. That might be caused by a javascript error. Please check your browser's javascript error console when on that page to see if you have an error and report it back. Also please try with another browser, just in case.
