Description disappears when editing characteristic

Hello,

I purchased the Essential version 1.5.3 on behalf of my client.

Am having trouble with the description text disappearing after trying to edit a characteristic.

The text can disappear, not only from the product in question, but lots of other products as well.

I did try changing the editor, but that didn't help.

I have had to open every product, delete the characteristics in the product window, sometimes even delete the Characteristics from the Characteristic window itself and re-do them.

Have just finished doing that and the client made another mistake with the characteristics and the same thing is happening again.

I have told the client not to add any more products until this problem is sorted out.

This could be a bug perhaps?

Can you help me with this problem please.

Kind regards,
Robin

Hi,

We've never had such problem reported. I don't see how the description could be deleted by the characteristics. Both are independent really. Could you give more information on the problem ?
Which version of joomla you're using ? Which editor (and its version) you're using ?
In the configuration of HikaShop, you can change the editor used by HikaShop. If you use another one, do you have the same problem ?
Which browser are you using ? If you use another browser, do you have the same problem ?

Hello Nicolas,

We've never had such problem reported. I don't see how the description could be deleted by the characteristics. Both are independent really. Could you give more information on the problem ? (Description is not deleted - it's still in the product window in the editor - jus doesn't show on the front end of the website.)

Which version of joomla you're using ? Which editor (and its version) you're using ? (Joomla 1.7 and JCEeditor Version 2.0.4. Also happens with TinyMCE)

In the configuration of HikaShop, you can change the editor used by HikaShop. If you use another one, do you have the same problem ?

Which browser are you using ? If you use another browser, do you have the same problem ? (Safari Version 5.1.1 Firefox Version 6.0.2)

An example of what's happening:

This particular product has two Characteristics, one for a size range and one for a colour range.

In the product window (back end) both pop-up menus appear correctly, you can click on each Characteristic and see each value range.

On the front end of the website the description for this product is not visible and the text alongside the Characteristic for Colours: (says) no values found.

Check it out here:

www.hotfrocksbrighton.com.au/index.php/p.../category_pathway-17

If I went in now and deleted the Colour Characteristic from the products window, clicked the Save button, the description text would then be visible on the front end. In some cases I needed to delete both Characteristics, then re-do them, to make the description text visible on the front end.

Another example is Under Dresses - Casual Dresses - Rose Garden CM017. Link for this is:

www.hotfrocksbrighton.com.au/index.php/p.../category_pathway-17

In the Product window we have a Characteristic for a Size Range which seems to be OK.

However, on the front end of the website the description text is not vivible, neither is the Characteristic.

Again, if I deleted the Characteristic from the Product window, then clicked the Save button, the description text would then appear on the front end.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Kind regards,
Robin

The problem is that you need to add both characteristics at the same time in the product so that it generates the variants based on both. Otherwise, it will generate the variants only based on the first characteristic and when you add the second one, it will tell you that there is no values found for it.

Hello Nicolas,

Thanks for that. Will give it a try.

It seems that you cannot make a mistake when adding two Characteristics because you can't go back to the product to edit the mistake without causing this problem.

This also means, you cannot add, or edit, a new Characteristic after you hit the Save & Close button.

This seems to be a bug that I'm sure you will address in hopefully the next release.

Will do what you say and if we continue to have problems, will be back in touch.

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,
Robin

Well, if you have to change the characteristics and add new combinations, you will indeed have to regenerate the variants if you want the new ones to be taken into account. That's not a bug, it's just the way it's done as you don't want to have new variants poping everywhere when you add a new combinations only for some products.
