Image files renamed

When an image file on my computer is updated, I do an ftp upload to the upload folder.

But when I go to change the image in the back end, I have to delete the current file and upload the new file and when that happens, Hikashop renames the file adding an 8 digit number to the file name.

Is there a better way to update product images without having to go through the steps of deleting, and updating. This is the only really awkward part of Hikashop for me.
