category listing with strange results

Hi, Nicolas,

I am afraid I messed something up again but have no idea what's wrong.

I named the main product categorie "webshop"
I have 4 subcategories, "karper" "roofvis" "witvis" and "zeevis"
only the subcategory "roofvis" has content yet as I am still working on this, so it has two subcategories and some products.

In my main joomla menu, I created a menu item "webshop" and choose type Hika category listing... added a product view module.... and all is showing just like I want. So far so good.

What I wanted to do now is create some extra navigation, so I created a new joomla menu called webshopmenu. I want to add some links to some subcategories in that menu, and publish the joomla menu module somewhere on my site.

So I created another Hika category listing menu item and want to point it directly to the "roofvis" category.
every time I open that menu view it changes back to the main/top category level "webshop" no matter how many times I select the subcategory "roofvis"

Also, it keeps telling me I didn't choose a associated product module, and when I do, it doesn't show or it does, then it disappears again.

anyway, I cannot get it to work.

So maybe, what I did before I got to where I am now, is while trying to figure out how the menu and module thing in Hika shop works, I had messed it up for my linking, deleted them all (menu and modules) and simply started over by creating them again. I have no idea if that broke things. As i said, the main route is working fine. I can browse and get to my products and order them. I just cannot get another menu item or anything to work.

you can see the result while clicking the "roofvis" link in the main top template position while if you navigate normally, it all does work.

any ideas? Did I break things and do i really need to start over with a brand new Hikashop install? Or is it something else?

kind regards, Corine

Hi,

I think that the problem is just that you're not adding the parent category properly in the hikashop options of your menu.
Could you do some screenshots of that process so that we can see how you do it ?

are there problems with joomla 1.7 in combi with hika and maybe firefox or something?

I get the most weird results. Having logged of and on did allow me to change the menu view and set the parent category. So at least something is showing now.

it is just that I want to understand what is happening and I simply don't.

for some strange reason, I now have three modules going with one menu view, and I doubt I need them all but am afraid to remove them.
and navigating through the main menu to a product gives me a normal product name, but going to the same product through the category listing view I mentioned here gives me a product name AND product no, something I don't really want.

here's the screenshots.

i hope you can clarify some of it....

thanks for helping, I appreciate it!

Corine

There is no problem with joomla 1.7 or firefox.

I didn't see any where on your website a link to access the products listing apart from the "webshop" link of your menu.
Could you point that out ? Because I didn't see any product with the product code displayed so it's hard to see what could be the problem.

okay, something you said made me think of something.

my menu item to "roofvis" is published on my webshop page.

I tried publishing it on some other page, Links, just to try and see if that makes a difference, and it does.

when navigating to a product from the Links page, using the "roofvis" menu, I get a normal product name.

when navigating to the same product from the roofvis menu on the webshop page, however, the product no. gets added to the product title/name.

weird weird wierd.

:::confused:::

so I think I know now how to direct my visitors to some part of the shop from anywhere else within the website, but how do I properly add some (sub)navigation within the webshop itself?
I did turn on the breadcrumbs, but don't think that is enough. I want something more than that.

kind regards,
Corine

I actually don't have that problem on your website regardless of the page from which I go to the product page.

Does that only happen with a specific browser ?
Could you give a link to the product page where you have the problem ?

well, I am glad I made a screenshot yesterday, otherwise I would seriously start doubting myself.

so yeah, it was firefox 7 again.

and now of course it is working fine.

so all my problems seem to be related to firefox 7.

I think I will try and work with another browser for a while and see how that goes.

if anybody has experienced similar problems on a Mac with Firefox 7 and knows what's happening I would really like to know!

thanks for your help once again, Nicolas.

you don't happen to know anything about joomla 1.7 and firefox and caching problems?

Hi,

I've heard about people having problem with Firefox 7 and joomla on macs lately indeed. But for some reason, that was not the case with the windows version of Firefox 7 nor with any other browser.
Unfortunately, we don't use macs on our end and couldn't reproduce the problems.
