First off, I want to thank your support for being so helpful! I have one remaining issue (I hope!=))on a site where we've used Hika Shop.

We've set the zone so it only charges tax in California. However we just got an order from Oregon, and it added on tax as well. This was an order going through Authorize.net.

how do we set it to only charge tax on the one state?

THANK YOU!

Hi,

We would need more information to help you. Could you do some screenshots maybe ?
From your taxes listing, from your configuration page, from the address entered by the user (hiding the name and the street) and a link to your shop would also be great so that we can see that.

Hello HikaShop:

I am also experiencing the same tax problem as HC007 mentions above, except you can see the tax added already in the order completion page before going to the payment processor (Paypal in my case). I am only able so far to have people checkout with either no tax at all added to their order, or tax added no matter which state they register with. I would only like to charge 6.35% tax to CT residents.

Our website is planetzerogravity.com/lifestyle-gear. Here is what I have done to set up the taxes. Please let me know if I have missed something. Attached are some screen shots.

1)Under configuration page - main : set main tax zone to 4267 Connecticut

2)Under Manage Tax Categories : created 'sales tax'

3)Under Manage Rates : created tax namekey 'CT Tax' and set rate to 6.35%

4)Under zones : filled in the information for CT and selected published

5)In my product pages under tax category: I select the 'sales tax' I created

Thankyou,
Stephan - PZG

Hi,

Your problem might come form point 4:
you don't have to create/modify any zones. The zones by default should be used as there is already a Connecticut zone, and that's the one which should be used everywhere.

Also, you didn't say that you created a new tax rules on the System->Taxation menu. Tax rules are what link zones, tax categories and tax rates together. If you don't have one, no tax will be added to the prices. Also, that's an important part of the tax setup so could you do a screenshot of that ?

Other than that, it seems fine.

Hi Nicolas:

Thanks for the quick reply. I forgot to mention it in my post but yes I did create a new tax rule. Still no luck...

Attached is screen shot of that and another one showing a MA address that I input as a test that is still charging tax.

Thanks,
Stephan

In your address I can see Boston MA.
There is no state name nor country name. That explains why the system doesn't apply the taxes properly.
You unpbulished or changed the custom address fields and thus the system cannot associate anymore the state zones in your configuration and the information of the address of the customer.

I guess I am still confused. Looked at what you suggested, but I don't understand you saying that there is no state name or country name. 'MA' is the state which the form prompts you to add as you register and add your billing info. Correct, there is no country. Does that need to be added to the registration form?

When you say I changed or unpublished the custom addresses, what screen would I do that from?

For the tax to work, under zone types do I have to set up CT as a state or tax zone?

Thanks,
Stephan

I meant that the state MA does not exists in HikaShop by default.
In the display of the address, it's the state name which is used and not the state code. The state MA doesn't has its name as MA.
Which means that either you went in the menu Display->Custom fields and changed the state/country fields and/or that you changed the state zones via the menu System->Zones.

In order to apply taxes, the system link the address of the user and the taxes zone based on the state field value.

If for example you create a new custom field to handle the selection of the address state and unpublished the default address_state field, the system won't use your field for the taxes because only the address_state and address_country fields can be used for that. That would mean that the system would apply the taxes as if your customer was based in the main tax zone you set in the configuration regardless of what he chose in your custom state field.

Got it Nicolas. Under custom fields my state was set up as a text field rather than zone. Changed it and it works! Thanks for your help.
