Hi All,
while setting up my products I added them to one category (general) The client now wants some changed to reside in another category.
I can't seem to find a 'move' button or feature, I know I can export to csv, but that just re imports with the same original category info.

Is there an easy way to move items between categories, please

Shannon

Hi,

You can simply go to the product edition page and add a new category in the field on the right while deleting the old one.

Hello Shannon,

If you just want to change your product's catagory, you'll just have to :

- Go to your product page
- Use the Categories tab and the ADD button
- Then add your new category and delete the old category (through the delete button)

Hope this will help you.

Thanks to you both, that method worked fine.
However I'm just curious why not just a move item option? It seems to me adding another category, then deleting the original for each product is rather cumbersome and far more time consuming, esp. if you have a large number of items? A simple move button and check the items to move . . . seems the ideal solution. @ Nicolas . . . Could this idea be added to any wishlist for future releases?

Many thanks again Guys. I'm slowly overcoming the different ways Hikashop does things compared to VM and learning how to workaround the many bugs.

Having a move button could be an idea. The problem is that since you can have several categories attached to a product, if you move products to a category how the system would be able to know which category to remove and which one to keep ?
It gets tricky when you change the filter on the right and display all the products of all the categories at the same time. The system can sure add selected products to a category, but moving them would not be possible as it would be completely impossible to know which category should be deleted unless you would assume that the products would only be in one category.

Having said that, we want to have a way to do that and even more stuff using a mass filtering/actions system in the future. It's already on the todo list.

Hi Nicolas'
Thanks for your post, with your detailed reply I understand the complexity of hikashop's range of features and variables better, Thank you. However, in my situation, I probably would never explore much in the way of filters and diversity and think for my needs an optional move button with just a "basic from 1 category to 1 new /other category" could be benefifical. Of course for Power Users with thousands of diverse items, other solutions would need to be developed.
Thanks for listening

If a ticked product has a category which == filter_id then change to new category, else move on.
Something like that? I still need this feature. Setting up a large shop is hard.

Thanks for your feedback,
Also note that for the moment, you can probably use the mass actions to directly do it :
