Tracking downloads?

I've got an ebook site ( stillpointdigital.com ) and most of my sales are digital downloads. I've started to offer multiple formats (mobi, ePub, PDF) in bundles. I'd love to know which formats get downloaded. To be honest, I'd love to know when and how often folks download under any circumstances.

Is there a way of tracking downloads through Hikashop? I'd think that there would be a report that I could pull together to show that, but if there is, I can't find it.

Thanks.

David

Hi,

In HikaShop, there is actually no way to track downloads.

Okay! It's nice to get a clear answer, even if the answer is not the one that I wanted to hear.

May I suggest this feature as a possible addition in future updates? For those of us who are using Hikashop to manage digital download sales -- ebooks, audio, software, or video -- it would be an invaluable piece of information to be able to track: which files were downloaded when, and by whom.

I'm curious: Hikashop limits the number of times a particular customer can download a particular file--or at least I think it does. I haven't poked around in the MySQL tables, but I'm sure the data (other than the timestamp of each download) must be in there somewhere already!

(And if I was mistaken about limiting downloads per file per user--that too is an essential feature.)

You can indeed limit downloads per file per purchase.
Note however that for this feature, only a counter is present. There is no timestamp of each download.

When you edit a product with downloadable files, you will find the number of downloads for each file in the Files area.
If you edit an order with a downloadable file, you will see the number times the file has been downloaded for that order.

That way, you can more or less know which files are downloaded and by whom.

Advanced tracking of downloads is not possible yet. It could be in the future but I'm not sure about having that by default in HikaShop since it's quite a specific use.

Hi Nicolas,

Has there been any change to tracking downloads in HikaShop (Business)? As with David's site, that is the main purpose of our HikaShop implementation.

Our sales people are asking about the status of order downloads. Just having a counter is not specific enough for their purposes. They'd like to know what date/time the download occurred and, if possible, from which IP address.

Thanks!

Hi,

The status of the tracking of downloads is still the same.

Dkudler,
I'm wondering how you were able to get HikaShop to manage mobi files? I get an error that says mobi isn't supported? Is there a workaround or something I've missed?
TIA!

Hi,

In the configuration page of HikaShop, go in the section Files and you'll find an option where you can define the valid extensions for the upload of files.
