Hikashop categories and SEO

Hi,

I am looking for advise and to have better knowledge how hikashop works.

We are creating new site. It will have only 1 main category for all products. We want to allow people use filtering by product categories so we created subcategory like "jeans"... We also want this to be index by SEO so Filled all meta and alias ( "/jeans" ), and canonical set to have filter parameter of main category ( "/main-category?&filter_Categories_7=12" ) for this category via hikashop categories explorer.

Now questions.

1. We want this category to be indexed by google. If we submit sitemap with hikashop categories will this be enough?
Would we get this: www.mysite.com/jeans and on click canonical above will be used?

2. Or we must associate every hikashop category to joomla menu item so the joomla alias will be used?

We just want to have subcategories which will be used by SEO and on accesing them it should go to main category with filter parameters.

Kind Regards

Hi,

1. It will be the canonical URL which will be indexed for the category, since that's the goal of the canonical URL system.

2. If you want another URL to be used, then you' would need another URL in the canonical URL, but then you wouldn't get redirected to the main category URL with the filter parameter.

So I don't see a solution to do exactly what you want with the options available. That will require some advanced coding.

Hi,

Thanks for clarification Nicolas. Instead of using categories as filters we will create hidden menu items in filter columns and this will do the job.

Hello,
it is about seo and categories too

for ex. I have several categories in hikashop products:

Danfoss
+ solenoid valves
++ ev220w
+++ ev220w_nc
+++ ev220w_no

create a joomla menu exactly the same in order to obtain correct references of this kind

mysite / danfoss / solenoid-valves / ev220w
mysite / danfoss / solenoid-valves / ev220w / ev220w_nc
mysite / danfoss / solenoid-valves / ev220w / ev220w_no

the principle is clear

So if in the joomla menu I choose the type of menu hikashop category listing, then everything works correctly,
I get the links as indicated above, but if I specify the type of hikashop product listing ,
then the links gonna be
mysite / danfoss / solenoid-valves / ev220w / category / ev220w-220-nc
mysite / danfoss / solenoid-valves / ev220w / category / ev220w-220-no
. Apparently this is a bug.

Of course, I can only choose a category listing, but then on the frontend are output
folders hikashop which are nested, but I do not need to show them.
Then how do I fix this?

Hi,

Are you talking about the breadcrumbs or the URL itself ?
And how is your menu item configured for that example ? Could you provide some screenshots ?
Also, if I understand correctly, the "category" in the URL is the "category SEF name" you set in the HikaShop configuration. Is that correct ?
