Is there any way to add to the product front end the capability for the user to enter comments regarding the product?

Yes of course. You can install jComments and then activate the comment option in the config of hikashop under the tab display.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I just installed it. What about to rate a product, is there plugin for that, or this comment needs to be customized?

I don't know. Maybe jomcomment or jcomments have a plugin to handle rating ?
