Hi again,

I would like to have different options states for areas i.e. UK state = required as this is vital for the shipping, Europe & Rest of the World states are a mixture of none or incorrect or not in English which presents a problem as one of my best customers is from South Korea (look at the states for that one..lol)

Basically I would like to set the UK, UK Highlands & Islands to required (pick from zone list) and Europe & Rest of the World to not required so that they would complete this themselves instead of choosing from the zone dropdown, is this possible if not can you suggest a work around please.

thanks in advance

Hi,

What is the problem with the South Korea's states ? As far as I can see they are the correct provinces in South korea. Sure they are in Korean but you can always put their english names and share them with us so that we integrate them in hikashop by default. Also, if you find errors, you can also correct the regions.
The France and Japan regions (The one I know well) are correct.

Otherwise, you can just unpublish all the states you don't want and just keep published the UK states to get what you want.

Hi,

They might be correct but I cannot read Korean and have to transfer this information into Sage, plus the local Post Master would have much fun as all my parcels go recorded delivery whereby he has to type in the addresses.

I have tried what you suggested but as the state is set to required for UK purpose it does not allow you to type in manually (well I cannot seem to get it to anyway)

think I must be missing something?

You don't need to read korean to get your regions translated. You can just use google translate: translate.google.com/#auto|en|%EC%84%9C%...EB%B3%84%EC%8B%9C%0A

If you unpbulish all the states for a country, the states dropdown won't be displayed. Isn't that what you get ?

How dumb an I, I have google translate on the site.

Correct if I unpublish all the sites the drop down is not displayed which is what I am after, but there is then no box to manually enter the state?

Indeed. Either you get no state or you choose from the dropdown list of states. You can't have an input box displayed only if no states are found.

If you want to use an input box, you can unpublish the address_state field and create a new one of the type "input" via the menu Display->Custom fields. However, you won't be able to restrict shipping methods based on the states.
