Add to group based on affiliate or coupon

Hi

I hope you can give me an idea of if this will be at all possible.
We work is education and we are using Hikashop to sell our courses.
We have companies that promote our courses by means of a discount code which is linked to there affiliate account.
What we are trying to implement is the following:
Company X send us a student, the student registers using the coupon code and is linked to company x (this works currently)

Company X then needs to be able to track the progress of the students they referred. To do this I need to add the student to the "CompanyX" user group in joomla.

So my question is basically this:
I know Hikashop can assign a person to a group based on a product they purchased but is there a way to add a person to a group based on affiliate or coupon code.

I found a way to do this using the Hikashop Mass actions.
