Customized Cart Module

I've looked all over the forum and Google and cannot find what I'm looking for.

How would I change the cart module (and only the module) from showing everything it currently shows to only say something along the lines of

"You have X items in your cart. Your total is Y"

or

"Your cart total is Y"
