I am moving a clients old site to a new responsive site with Hikashop for the store. Right now Hikashop will just be used as event registration and payment for these courses. When these courses are sold I am attempting to mimic an old form he had for registration. This will only apply to the course products. Course products in a "Courses" category and subcategories.

I was planning on make custom fields for category "Courses" as will as "Including Sub Categories".

If I read the help information correctly I assume that would be the proper way to gather additional information need when a customer purchases a "Course" product? Later shirts and other items may be added and I do not need extra information for that.

This is a picture of the current form and information.

I am I going about it the proper way? If not, what would you consider best practices.

Hi,

That's correct. Note however that you need to select the table "item" if you want these fields to be selectable/fillable by the customers on the product page when adding the products to the cart.
If you use the "category" table, then the fields will be selectable/fillable in the backend when you edit a category, which is not what you want.

You can read more about custom fields here:

First off thank you for the item table information, as it saved me from having to redo it all.

Everything looks fine other than "State" zone custom field. I looked at it in the default address field and did same settings but it does not show up. The label does but not the dropdown for the states.

Current Frontend:

Backend Settings for my custom states zone field:

Default Address States zone field:

So, what have I missed?

Hi,

The state zone field is tied to the country zone field because you only want it to display the states of one country. So you need to select the country you want as default country in a country zone field in the same table that you can leave enabled but deactivated for the frontend display settings and the state field should then work properly.

First off it is working now, but it has to be published on the "Front-End" or the States do not show. If you want access to figure it out let me know and I will provide it.

Now my process of getting there was not smooth.

I made a new field and changed the type to zone and saved so the countries would show up as an option.

I was met with an error screen:

Navigating back to display custom fields shows that it was created, but I got the same error when attempting to edit it.

I was only able to get into it after unpublishing it. I thought all was well, but I would choose a default value for country and it would save, but default back to Afghanistan. This would happen no matter what country I chose.

Trying to pick USA while unpublished still.

Only after I published again was I able to also save the desired country.

Once all that was done the States do show up but only if it is also on the front-end of the site, which for me is fine. I was just attempting to make it like the registration and address page where I was able to unpublish country and the states still work.

Thank you for all the help. I am sure I will have more questions, but I will start new threads so others can search.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. We'll add a patch regarding the MySQL query error.
