No activation email

Hello Support,

I'm checking out Hikashop Starter locally before deciding to buy it and I stumble upon the fact that Hikashop does not send out emails, though Joomla itself does so when using the traditional Joomla registration process (the conf is set on "Self").

In the Hikashop registration process, the expected message "Your account has been created …" appears but no mails go out so no link can be clicked.
After activating the (in Hikashop created account) manually, I can go through the buying process and an order is created, but no emails (confirmation etc.) are send out.
In order to test my local server configuration, I tried another (not named) solution and confirmation emails are send out and arrive, but I can't figure out what's wrong, did I overlook a configuration option?

I also noticed that in the registration page, the field "Post code" is NOT marked as required, but it should, no?

Thanks in advance for your answer,
Jan

Hi,

Go in the menu Customers>Emails history. There, you'll see all the emails sent by HikaShop. If you see the user account activation email there, then it means that HikaShop sent it to your email server and that either your email server blocked it or the receiver email server blocked it.
Note that HikaShop only sends an activation email because you have activated it in the Joomla user manager settings. If you deactivate it there, HikaShop will automatically activate and login the customer after clicking on "register" and I would recommend that on an online shop in order to simplify the checkout procedure for your customers.

The post code field is not necessarily required. It depends on your needs. Just go in the menu Display>Custom fields and set it as required if you want it required.

Hello Nicolas,

In my test version, which is HS Starter, there seems not to be a (sub?)menu Customers->Email history, see attachment

The error code you see is because reporting is set to "Maximum".
The mail settings in User Manager were O.K.
But I was just doing a test with three different email addresses and found out that up to now only a GMail address worked as intended, but not the one I used on the test site. That address is one of many on the same domain and I do not have a problem with those since I use them for important things and would hear if there was a problem, contacts can also reach me in different ways when it"s urgent. What is more surprising is that the so-called 'blocked" email address works well when used within the Joomla sphere on the same test site; just not for HS, strange isn't it? I'll do some more tests later.

I hadn't discovered the page yet where one can set the registration fields as one needs, nice.

Thanks,
Jan

Hi,

If you don't see that menu, it means that the HikaShop Email History plugin is deactivated in the Joomla plugins manager. Activate it and do your test again and you'll then see the email in that menu.

The error message is not linked to your problem but thank you for your report, we'll fix it in the next version.

The activation email sent by HikaShop and the activation email sent by Joomla are not the same.
HikaShop's is a HTML email so that it can display nicely for example. Also, there are many settings in the HikaShop configuration to specify how the emails should be sent which aren't available in Joomla.
So the fact that the activation email is received when going through Joomla and not when going through HikaShop indicates that there is a problem with the configuration of the email settings in HikaShop which isn't accepted by your email sending server (and apparently only for some email addresses ?). It doesn't mean that there is a bug that should be fixed in HikaShop. And thus, once you get the details of the activation email in the email history, you should contact your hosting company and check with them why the email didn't reach its destination. They should be able to check the email server log et tell you what is wrongly configured.
