How to hide individual product characteristics?

i'm testing hikashop if it will fulfill my needs. I created some categories and products and there's the first problem. I created one product characteristic with 4 values. Not all products need all values, some need 2, some need 3, some need 2 other as an other.

e.g. My characteristic is named "Unit" product A needs characteristc 1 and 3, product B needs characteristc 2 and 3. But both products show characteristic 1, 2, 3 and 4.

So, if I add the property to a product, I always have all the 4 values. I tried to hide individual values in manage variants but it has no effect, the product always shows all 4 variants.

Actually the system display always all the values, but say "no stock" when the variant is disabled.
It's doing that this way in case of there is many characteristics, it's very difficult to determine if one variant id published or not when the dropdown are generated.

What can be done is create more characteristics with less options to add them to the product and have only the desired variants.

Many thanks, your workaround is working very well but it would be easier and more logical for a user to simply hide the unneeded variants.

The next question is following, is it possible to change the order of the variants after creating? Now it's in the reversed order as it sholud be.

P.S I bought Hikashop now and the company account is now Plotec, so don't be irritated.

Can we expect that you implement the function to hide not used characteristics in the near future? It's currently possible to unpublish variants but that has no effect to the frontend view. For me it looks as it will not be a big deal to implement...but i'm just a noob. I think it's worth to implement because it makes life much easier for your users.

If you want to hide your product variants by "unpublishing" them, you should set the Display out of stock products option to NO through "Hikashop->System->Configuration->Display".
And if you also want to display you "out of stock products", you should set the Characteristics selection method option to List through "Hikashop->System->Configuration->Main", so that your customers will only be able to purchase your published variants.

it's almost what I want...but only almost. The listmode doesn't display the unpublished items, that is exactly what I want.....but I want it as dropdown and there the unpublished items are displayed. So the question is, will it be possible in one of the next versions?

this is not correct. In my case, this only works when I set it to listmode. If I set it to dropdown ALL characteristics are shown also the unpublished. You can see it here: Steinofenbäckerei

I have 2 characteristics, 1 Flavors, 2 package.

The flavor "Schoko" should only have the package -> Bruchplatte and 500gr. Beutel <--- Variant "250gr. Beutel" is unpublished
The flavor "Mandel" should only have the package -> Bruchplatte and 250gr. Beutel <--- Variant "500gr. Beutel" is unpublished
The flavor "Nuss" should only have the package -> Bruchplatte and 250gr. Beutel <--- Variant "500gr. Beutel" is unpublished

As you can see, all flavors have all packages. In listmode the displayed variants are correct, only the published variants are displayed.

EDIT: I tested with all options, Only as list and as table the unpublished variants are not displayed. If I use dropdown and radiobuttons, all variants are displayed

Yes, of course. I did exactly what suggested in your post.

Ok and can you download the last Hikashop version (2.2.2) through our website, install it, and test it again ?

I did install the latest Hikashop version but it still displays all variants in dropdown. Do you think I should create the product completely new? Or doesn't it matter?

Sure, I've done some tests through your website, and I just thought that you had 1 characteristic for your product.
If you have 2 characteristics for your product, and that you want to hide one value of this characteristic for your product, you'll have to :
- Unpublish every variant of your product which this characteristic value
- Set the Display out of stock products option to NO

I did this but it still doesn't help.

Ah I see, here's the misunderstanding.
My problem is as following:
Schoko is offered only in "Bruchplatte" and "500g Beutel", so If I choose Schoko, the 250g Beutel have to disappear.
Nuss is offered inly in "Bruchplatte" and "250g Beutel", so If I choose Nuss, the 500g Beutel have to disappear.
Mandel is only offered in "Bruchplatte" and "250g Beutel", so If I choose Mandel, the 500g Beutel have to disappear.

That's the problem, only the characteristics combination that is not offered should be unpublished and that is not the case. If I unpublish all characteristics of a specific value the whole characteristic disappear also if another characteristic needs them.

Ok, so I don't think that this will be possible without some code customization, which will require some development skills
