Setting up product prices

Hi.

I'm currently adding Hikashop to my existing web site and getting there but have a particular problem.

The web site sells prints of my own photographs and each photograph is available in 3 sizes each priced differently.

So I've added a size characteristic to the products and have 3 variants and set a price against each size. I have been putting in the price for each size for each product so that's 3 x dozens of products. It seems Mass Actions don't work for variants of characteristics and I'm also worried about the amount of updating if/when prices need to change.

Any suggestions as to how I can get round this much appreciated.

Hi,

Mass actions do work on variants. It's probably the way you configured your mass actions which made it not update the prices of your variants when you tried.
Also, an alternative to mass actions, is to use the export/import system to update the prices of the variants.

Many thanks, but I still can't see how to use Mass Actions to update the prices or each of my size variants.

I have a characteristic of Size and then 3 possible sizes. In Mass action, if I choose 'Update characteristics' under Actions, it only allows me to Add or Delete the Size characteristic and not to change the values of price for each size ?

Hi,

The "Update characteristics" action is to add/remove characteristics of main products. It's not meant to change prices.
What you want instead is to use the "Update the values" action, select the "price_value" column and enter the value you want in the field next to it. You'll also want to set a filter "Characteristics" with your "size" characteristic and enter the value for which you want to update the price.

Hi,

That's great. I can see how to do it now.

Unfortunately I must still be doing something wrong as it says Successfully Saved but doesn't seem to be updating the values !

I've attached a couple of screen shots of what I'm doing.

Thanks again.

Just discovered that the mass action on Price Value is working by running a Mass Action to display results. But it doesnt show on the variant for the product (screen shot attached).

Hi,

In the mass action thans to try another operation than "Contains", you should try "Like".

Hi.

Still not getting this to work :-(

Should it really update the individual price in the variant ?

Hi,

If the mass-action does not feet to your needs, you can use the export/import system in order to import the variant data and import the prices in the same time.
If you import just the variant data, it will update only these elements.

Once some products are in place, the best for you will be to copy one existing product when creating new one.
So it will duplicate a product, his variants and his prices.

Thanks very much.

Should this mass action work for variant prices ?

If I use import, what would the column names be for the variant sizes and prices ?

Thanks.

OK, well I've been through it all again and as far as I can see I'm doing what is being suggested. Screen shots attached of mass action and results. It seems to be updating the product price and not the individual variant price ?

Thanks.

Hi,

I tried the same thing than you, using characteristics named "16in x 12in", etc.
Setting up a mass action with the same settings and the variant price is well updated, and not the main product one.

So on my end it's working pretty fine.

Can you try to add the filter "Product type" and select "variant" for the value ? This will force the edition of only the variants and not main products.

And for the actions, thanks to add the "Display the results" one in order to see what is returned with the current filters.

Do you have edited any plugins related on the mass actions ? Do you have the latest version ?

Hi.

Many thanks for trying to help me.

If I add product type of variant to the filter, and display the results it doesn't display anything. If I remove that filter, it does display all the products. But there are definitely variants set up for those products.

I don't understand your question about plugins ? Sorry.

i only installed Hikashop a few weeks ago, So I assume it's the latest. I only have the Starter version. That's not the problem is it ?

many thanks. I really want to get to the bottom of this !

Hi,

It seems that there is an error when selecting the characteristic name, it is not loading number of results in the filter part of the mass actions.

So I will need a FTP access. Thanks to give it via pm with the url of that topic this time ;)

Hi,

The problem is that you have a "category" filtering for your variants, but the variants don't have categories attached.
It's only main products which have that.

That's why you hasn't correct results with this mass action settings.
If you only filter on characteristic size and product type, you will only edit the variants with the desired size.

At this time it is not possible to filter on variants of a specific category. It will require custom code.
I add this feature in our TODO list.

Xavier,

Thank you so much. That works fine now. I only added the category filter at a late stage just to limit what it was doing. It's obviously adding the filter of product type =variant that's made the difference, but the category filter was still stopping it.

Many thanks for sorting this out for me. Much appreciated.
