Hi,

Is the price based on the weight or flavour ? If no, so you can potentially use the custom item fields.

Else, it seems that creating many characteristics will be the solution, unless you are a developer and can do some view modifications to update the price based on the custom fields values, and then use the custom quantity width lenght plugin and adapt it to your need to have correct pricing in cart.

Hi,

So one thing you could do would be to have only two characteristic, one of the flavour, one for the weight, and have all the possible values added in both characteristics. Then, add them in each product and then click on the "manage variants" button to delete the combinations you don't want for each product.
That way, you can have different products using the same characteristics but with different choices.

Hello,
I have a related question regarding options and characteristics.

My customer's shop carries a number of different, but similar products. Each product will have several "Options" such as width, height, depth, style etc. Each option will have a number of "characteristics" For example, for depth, there are 25 possible values, some of which will have a price adder.

My question is this - is there a way to minimize the data entry of options and/or characteristics that are the same across multiple products?
Can options be shared by several similar products?
Or, is there a way to copy a product with its options and characteristics and then edit the specific product differences?

I would greatly appreciate some advice on this. Thanks.

Hi,

Yes you can use one option in many products, but the price of this option can't be defined for each products.
An option will have the same prices for all the products using it.

If you need to have different option price for each product, so you will have to create one option per product.

Hello, I am also needing some assistance.

My product option price depends on the size of the product the customer chooses. The original price stays the same for the initial default, then they can upgrade to a different size for additional cost.

Then they need to also specify a characteristic that does not change the price but is as important.

I am having trouble understanding how options and characteristics work together.

Do I need to create a same product with a new price for each option? Then add the characteristic as well?

So if I have 25 products with 5 options each, does that mean I need to create a total of 125 same products with a different price and assign each of the 5 price options to the main product? Do I need top publish the additional products with the different prices?

On the characteristics side, just assign the characteristic to the main product only? All of the products have the same characteristics and product price options.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Could you provide an example of products and pricing structure ? Do all the products with similar options will have the same price changes when changing the selection of the option ? Do the prices of one option change when changing the selection of another option ?

Based on all this, we should be able to tell you whether you should use options, or characteristics, or custom item fields, or a combination of these different features

Hi,

Following is a product example:

Product A is $10 for 100ml (this is the default value when someone lands on that product's page)
Options with price change (Choose a size)

  • Option A = $5 for 50ml
  • Option B = $2 for 25ml
Characteristics no price change (Choose a Density)
  • Characteristic A = 0g
  • Characteristic B = 5g (this is the default)
  • Characteristic C = 10g
  • Characteristic D = 15g
  • Characteristic E = 20g
All the products are structured this exact way as highlighted above, so they all use the exact same price Options and the exact same density Characteristics.

Thanks!

Hi,

If you have always the same prices regardless of the product, then you can use the same option for all the products.
and for the characteristic, yes, you can just add it to all the products.

Hello,

Yes I understand all that.

What I am having trouble with is whether or not I need to create additional identical products (but different price) for the options and make sure those products do not have any options or characteristics? or do all the products need the options and characteristics to be set?

Thanks

Hi,

In HikaShop you can use:
- item custom field : to have a selection from the user which will not influence the final price.
- options : to let the user add something more in the cart in the same time than the product (the add will be another product in your store).
- variants : define another kind of the product which can have his own name, price, quantity, description, images...

Each point have his advances and his drawbacks.
When your price does not change and you don't have to manage the stock quantity, we recommend the item custom field.
If it is something external of the product and it adds always the same fee, we recommend the product option.
If you have to manage the product stock or you have a really specific price, we recommend the variants.
