Using product ref numbers to place orders

My client wants a system where customers type in a product reference number to place orders. The system needs to check if the ref number is valid before adding it to the cart.

The products and ref numbers won't appear on the website but will need to be added to a database.

Can HikaShop handle this type of functionality and how do I configure it?
