Characteristic dependent variant

-- HikaShop version -- : 2.6.0

Straight away I realise I can do this by just extending the list of variants, however I would rather not do that if the following is possible.

I have a product that is made from a variety of different materials and the colours are (in some cases) limited by the choice of material. For example:

Product A is available in die-cast aluminium and enamelled cast-iron
In the cast-iron casing it can be: black or white
In the aluminium casing it can be: black, white or chrome

Is there a way to have a dependent variant so the user chooses cast-iron or aluminium then is presented with the appropriate colour choices from there?

Hi,

No really. The characteristics system has to display the colors for all the possible variants that you setup in the product.
What you can do though is to change the "characteristic display method" setting of the HikaShop configuration to "list" or "table" so that the customers won't see the choices that are not available.

Thank you for that. Your answer does work but isn't quite as elegant as my suggestion. I am happy, for now, to continue as I suggested with 5 options for this product example. For that number it is OK, but for a product with a number of related characteristics it might not be so useful. What is the procedure at Hikari for future feature requests?

We have a list on our end and we more or less keep track of everyone wishes in it.
So if we see a lot of interest for something and based on the time it takes to do it, we do it.
Some people also develop improvements on their end and sometimes provide them back so that we can include them in HikaShop for everyone to benefit from them.
