.csv export/ import

I have created one category, 3 products and on cat. listing menu item in a test site on a local host. I then use Hikashop export and try to load products on another local host test site to learn how the .csv import/export will work. I have the latest version of open office and the file is in .csv format and each time I try to make an import, even when the site to be imported to has no categories or products in it, and even though the .csv file only has 3 products and one cat. on it, I get this message;
"5 products found : 0 new products imported, 2 invalid product code, 3 already existing products"
There are not 5 products and there are not 3 products already existing.

Can I load the .csv file? I'll try...
