Hello again,

I am a bit stuck in understanding on how to best set up product structure to allow the best tool for the client.

The client is a photographer who wants to see their photos in following formats:
-- Printed on paper

4 differen sizes
Framed and not framed

Printed on canvas
4 -5 different sizes

Digital downlaod
multiple sizes

In some cases a photo will be available in all formats, in others just one of them.
I have been trying to work it out with the variants and characteristics, but I am not sure i am doing it in a sustainable way.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

From what you told me, I suggest you to use and configure Characteristics system, that will allow you to create several variants
See this tutorial that show how to manage Characteristics and Variants through color variants, and see this documentationthis documentation to learn differents Characteristics and Options.

More precisely: Define a Characteristics for each of your different data :
- Sizes Characteristics => size 1,2,3 & 4
- Famed Characteristics => Yes or Not
- Etc...

Hope this will help you.

Regards

Thank you for your response.

I am moving forward with this!

Just a question about options.
Is it possible to set categories in some way that the variants would be added to them by default with particular pricing etc, and then can be edited if needed.

I have 6 categories and each of them then has 4 different sizes, each size has 4 different mediums and then each of those items can have 3 different extras. So i have to set up 16 price options for main product and 12 prices for optional extras.
And then multiply that by 6!

If i could set up each of 6 categories to have their own set of variants and options, then it would make it easier for me and the client.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

There is no option to add characteristics or options for all the products of a category.
However, instead of creating new products, what you can do is duplicate the existing products with the "copy" button at the top of the products listing.
That way, the copied products will already have the options/characteristics configured in them and you just need to modify the data of the main product.

Thanks Nicolas,

It is a pity we cannot do it that way. Using variants does not really suit us, as we would have about 64 variants for every product. While set up of master product and then copying it would work, I think long term this would be almost impossible to manage.

Instead, the client has decided that it will work better to set up a base products and then allow people to add extras as separate products.
Is there a way to force users to add a product A, if they have added a product B, which may be a free product?

Thank you in advance.
