Hi,

We are looking into a website design for a client who manages the online purchasing and direct delivery of fruit and vegetables and are looking for some advice on how best to adapt hikashop to suit their business.

Their current website www.sallynpatricks.com.au/ allows a customer to subscribe to a weekly delivery service and can be invoiced automatically.

As part of their current system they have a route list that collates customer delivery addresses that can be manually rearranged for a given suburb or district to create a more efficient route for that particular delivery. Once a customer has been given a position in the list they retain that position for all future transactions unless their address changes. If a new customer is added their address must be given an initial position manually that is then retained for future deliveries.

Customers who may have subscribed to a weekly service (eg $30 boxed delivery) are also given the choice to swap out certain products each week as needed (up to a certain cut off period) before that weeks delivery takes place. The cost of the service doesn't change ($30) regardless of what products are swapped (eg swapping 500g carrots for 500g tomatoes) and the options given to the client to swap products are of similar value.

The client also makes use of a master list that is used to rearrange the order of products in the invoice, this is done to assist with the packing in each delivery box and factors in things such as weight, shape and size so as not to damage any produce. They can also adjust the price of each item in a single list without going into each item, this is important to be able to do quickly as their prices can vary throughout the week and they stock over 300 different products at any one time.

Is there any specific recommendation for how such a system should be emulated within hikashop, their current system was built using asp and was largely a custom job, however they want to modernize their site and make it mobile responsive, easier to maintain etc.

Any advice would be welcome,
Cheers

Hi,

Regarding the delivery routes and the links to the addresses, etc, I don't see any other way that custom code to handle all that, like it was done with the previous version of the website.

Regarding the products swapping, it would also require some customization in HikaShop.

Regarding the subscription system, I would recommend to use Emerald so that you can the subscription system handled in HikaShop. And if you need the payments to happen automatically each month, then note that they are working on supporting PayPal recurring with their integration to HikaShop so it should be available soon. I would recommend to contact them about that.

Being able to modify the prices through a list of products can be done with the mass actions system with the "Display the results" action.

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for the response, we're confident we can carry out most of the customization required however one other feature the client was interested in was a favourites button that appears on each product in a listing. When selected/checked any favourite product would appear at the start of that product list for the given category. i.e reorder the listing. Could this be achieved using custom fields or require customizing a view?

Cheers

Hi,

I don't think that custom fields would help in that case. There is nothing to save in the database. It will require view customization. I guess you'll need to customize product/listing_img_title to add the favourite button, and the products/listing to add the display of the products at the top.

Thanks Nicolas,
Our client would like us to emulate the following website as much as possible.
Woolworths Online

On issue we are having is with regards to the responsive design feature, we are able to get a good result but it means we are writing loads of template overrides and creating the display modules with several different versions so we can then say at;
break point 1 refer to module 1
break point 2 refer to module 2
break point 3 refer to module 3 etc...

this is something that maybe in future is on the radar?

Hi,

Regarding responsive display, a bit of CSS should be able to reproduce what I see there.
I'm not sure what you mean with the break points and the modules ?
