I am setting up a shop where registration is not required.

When I look at the orders the customer information is empty. I can see their name in the shipping and billing address but not the customer field.

Is it possible to capture the customer name when registration is not required?

Thanks! -- Steven

Hi,

The name field that is present when registration is activated comes from Joomla and thus cannot be used in "no registration" mode.
But, yes that's possible by creating your own name field. You need to create a custom field of the table "user" via the menu Display->Custom fields.

Thanks for the reply.

What is the best way to handle this?

Goal have a simple form that captures all the information and does overwhelm the customer. For this site they will not be repeat customers.

I feel like I tried the simple registration options and they required the person to click on a link in an email to complete their purchase.

Can registration be simplified so no email is sent out and the user does not have to click a link?

or is the best way to turn off registration and create the custom fields that you mentioned? If I create these custom fields will the customer name info be populated in the customer fields in the backend?

Any tutorials on how to set up these custom fields?

Thanks! -- Steven

Hi,

The activation email can be deactivated yes. That's an option of the joomla user manager. So simply go there and deactivate it.
You can also turn off the registration and add the custom field.
Both options are valid but the best is the first one.

Thanks for the reply. I think I have this section of the process worked out.

Here is what I have done:
Hika shop is set to use "simplified registration"
Turned off new account activation in Joomla core usermanager
Turned off Joomla Core new account notification email
Turned off Hikashop new account notification email

These configuration setting should allow for:
All information will be captured in the Hikashop backend
Shopper will not be aware that they have a joomla account
Shopper will not receive a Joomla Core or Hikashop account notification email

I think these settings should allow for the easiest shopping experience without any confusing account emails
Allow us to capture all information so it makes it easier to work with the data in the backend.

Does this seem like a good approach?

Can you see a reason not to go with these account settings?

Thanks! -- Steven

I would keep the user account notification activated. Otherwise, users won't know their passwords and won't be able to place a second order to your website and they will already have an account with their email and should have to log on the checkout instead of registering after the first order.

That is a very good point. I will check with the client on it.

Currently our only product is a $1,000 raffle ticket, so the odds or repeat customers is very low but it could happen.

Again thanks so much! -- Steven
