I am using Hikashop on a membership site. Members receive discounts and these appear to be properly configured and working. However, the public also can shop the store and is supposed to pay full price. Members already will have had an account and password created. In Hikashop I allowed public users to create a new account. It is working, but when the users are created in Joomla they are endowed with member status. Therefore the discount applies to them when it should not in fact be applied. When a non-member creates a new account in Hikashop, how can I regulate the access level? I want these non-member new accounts to be public users with no special view privileges except that they will now have a store account. I could not find an answer in the documentation or the forums. Thanks for your help as always.

I think I just found the answer. In Joomla user options I changed default registration level to "public." I think it will do the trick but will confirm.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why user registration doesn't work. The activation link does get sent properly. But when I click on it, it takes me to a nonfunctional login page. When I log in, I get this error message: "You do not have access to the administrator section of this site." Yet in the user manager of Joomla I see the new user and username. The new user has in fact been created but for whatever reason user login will not work. This new user is a public user with no special privileges. When I log in as a registered user, everything works fine. The discounts are showing as they should and I can check out normally. I hope you can shed some light on why public users can't register and log in and buy products just like site members (minus the member discounts of course). If you need to take a quick look at my settings, I would be happy to provide back-end access.

You can't change the registration level to public because otherwise it means that the users are not allowed to login.
You have two options:
1. You don't use the "registered" user group for your members but a new user group that you would create as a child of the registered user group via the joomla user group manager. And thus you keep the "registered" user group for normal users.
2. You change the "registration" mode of HikaShop to "no registration" so that users don't get a user account created for them during the registration and thus they will checkout as guest users and won't be registered to the website.

This is kind of what I thought. I am also selling downloaded e-books. That being the case, should I choose option 1 or option 2? I seem to remember that download file require registration to be on.
Thanks again,

Indeed, in that case I would recommend option 1.

I am so sorry, but user registration simply will not work no matter what.
Would you mind taking a look at the back end to tell what I am doing wrong? I am sure you will see it right away. I tried everything you suggested and am out of trouble-shooting ideas.
1. In Hikashop configuration, allowed registrations.
2. Created a custom user group titled "nonmenbers."
3. Gave "nonmembers" registered view permission.
4. In Joomla user manager options, selected "nonmembers" as registration category.
With these changes, registration still does not work. When I click the confirmation link in the e-mails, I still get various messages including "Username and password do not match or you do not have an account yet."
I see the new users being created in the Joomla user manager and being properly classified as "nonmembers." "Nonmembers" should be hooked up to Hikashop registration; but it just won't work.
If I sound desperate, it's because I am.
Thanks again,

FYI if it matters, the new users also are being created as Hikashop customers. But when I try to log into Hikashop as them, nothing but error messages. So I am just scratching my head as to why existing customers are locked out of the store.

I am not using a login module for the store. So I'm not sure what you're referring to. I am using the standard Hika cart. At checkout, it gives users an option to log in or create a new account. The "create a new account" function doesn't work and I'm trying to get some help to finally get it to work. Thanks anyway.

For future reference in case anybody is monitoring, this approach did finally work except for a final step I missed. Hiksahop customers are directed to a custom Joomla user category called "Nonmembers." "Nonmembers" was properly endowed with a "registered" access level. The step I missed was in the site's Global Configuration settings. There, in the Permissions tab, I had to customize the settings for "Nonmembers." Specifically, "Nonmembers" had to be permitted to log into the site. This was what had tripped all the error messages.
So now, I have my working system which allows members to log in and claim their membership discount. Public users can shop the store by creating a Hikashop customer account and paying full price. Both groups can purchase downloadable digital products.
