use only certain tables from non joomla database?

It is possible that hikashop be linked to a database that is not for joomla?
ex:
My database has tables product - columns {name, stock, price, weight, etc.}
Table categories - columns {name category, active, etc.}
I want to make hikashop to use only certain tables in my database and the rest to work with Joomla database.
Do you have any suggestions?

Note that Hikashop is a Joomla component, so I didn't fully understood your question, what do you really want to do ? Because If you don't want Hikashop to use some tables you'll have to directly edit the code to do that. Also note that If your have your products and categories on some tables, you'll still be able to import them by using a CSV file for example.

I have a web application that contains items and their stock, and my products have a unique id.
I want hikashop and the application that I use now to have common stock.
