BOGO type coupons

I have a request I cannot seem to find in any ecommerce solution so far.

I would like to have a shop where, when the user buys any one item, they get a second item (any item in the shop of equal or lesser value) for free.

Is there any way to do this?

That is definitely not the SAME question; it is similar but markedly different. Most notable in that none of the proposed solutions would in any way work for what I aim to do, aside from manually granting coupons for the value of purchased goods and forcing them to make a second order; which is still not what I am aiming for (as I want a second item of any sort to be free - but it might not be for the full value of the first item; whereas a manually issued coupon always would be for that same value).

Apparently, I must look for another storefront.
