Shipping cost ?

I am a bit confused on how to eliminate shipping cost for gift certificates (i am using AWO Coupons). I currently have 3 manual shipping methods set up base on price:

1. 01 - 19.99 $3
2. 20 - 49.99 - $5
3. 50+ - Free

Here is my challenge: I have 4 gift certificates set up through AWO Coupon in increments of $25, $50, $75, & $100. Of course i don't want to charge shipping on gift certificates. 3 of the 4 gift certificates qualify for FREE shipping bases on method 3 above however, i am struggling trying to get my $25 gift certificate not to charge shipping because it falls into method 2. I thought maybe price per product might work but i don't think that is the right way or i don't understand how to implement this. I tried adding another method and putting a weight factor in but it still charges the $5.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You have to enable the option "Use price per product" in your shipping methods.
Then on the gift product edition pages, change the price for the shipping methods to 0.

I am obviously not doing something correct. I have attached two images.

1. The price per product for shipping on my gift certificate trying to 0 out the shipping.
2. You can see when i purchase the $5 is still there.

Thanks.

please see attached. This is the shipping method for the 20-49.99, which this certificate falls into.

Thanks so much.

Ok, the problem is coming from the fact that if you set a shipping per product price through your product page, this price will be added to your shipping price option, so in your case, you'll add $0(price per product) to $5(shipping price).
A solution can be to set a price per product for each product, and set the "price" option of your shipping method to 0.

SO, you are saying I can't make 1 product free shipping without going in and changing each product and adding price per product? That Won't work anyway since shipping is based on a $ amount. Basically i want this one product free shipping, that's it. How do i do that please.

You can set fake dimensions to that free shipping product and no dimensions to other products.
Then, in the shipping methods that you already have, set a maximum volume below the volume of that free shipping product and create a fourth shipping method with a minimum volume below that free shipping product with a price of $0 and that's the shipping method which will display for that product.

Thank you that did work but presented another challenge. If i order the $25 gift certificate by itself i get the Free shipping however if i add another product , which should have shipping it does not calculate that shipping charge. Is there a way around that issue?

Unfortunately that starts to get complex as shipping is filtered based on all the products in the cart.
Maybe with restrictions on the weight and a weight set in all the other products and not this one, you could have additional shipping methods for such case.
It starts to get a bit messy.

The simplest is actually to use HikaMarket in such case where you need different shipping rules for different products.
You create one vendor per set of rules and then you assign the products to the different vendors based on the rules needed and then the system calculate the shipping for each vendor in the checkout. That way, you have a lot of flexibility.

Nick,

I have followed this thread and was having problems trying to set 'one' product to free shipping BUT I got it figured out! :)

Here is how I have the shipping setup:

Here is how I have the product volume setup:

Now volume of 1x1x1= 1 cubic cm and I have set the shipping min as 0.1 and the maximum as 10 cm. As 1 cm falls between 0.1 and 10 cm, I would expect that the product would fit the between those but it still didn't work.

Why? AHhhhhhhhh if you put the free shipping method as the last option in your shipping order, it finds the 'first' matching shipping method and picks that. So be sure to tell everyone that you have to move the Free shipping method as the 'first' option in order for it to work!!! Once I set it as the 1st shipping method, it worked like a dream.

I thought I would pass that along for anyone who was having problems in getting this setup.

Damn, this was working last month but now it's not.

To be honest, there should be an option on the product and characteristics for 'Charge Shipping (Y, N)' and 'Charge Tax (Y,N)'.

There are.
If you set a weight in the product, shipping is charged, otherwise it isn't.
If you select a tax category in the product, tax is charged, otherwise it isn't.

But what if you are charging shipment by price, yet there is a specific category or product that you will not be charging shipping? How can you separate those categories or products so no shipping is charged?

A solution can be to :
- Use the "Use price per product" option of your shipping configuration page
- Go to your product configuration page
- Block or set a shipping price regarding the shipping method through the "Shipping prices" tab of your product configuration page.

I'm not sure how this would work. From reading the documentatioin, if I set it as a 'price per product', then I have to add a shipping price to each and every product.

You will get a "Price per product" option on that same screen where you will be able to configure a fixed shipping price for each product added to the cart which will be summed up and added to the main price of the shipping method.
If you have activated the "HikaShop Shipping manual - Prices per product" plugin via the plugin manager of Joomla, you will be able to configure prices for that shipping method for each one of your products on their edition page

However, they are using a manual shipping method that applies a fixed shipping cost based on the sum of all products put into the cart. So the 'price per product' is not a solution to our problem.

I noticed that on the product page, there is an option for "Product tax category" which could be set to 'None'. Why not simply have a "Product Shipping Category" with the same ability to set to 'None'.

Also, on the manual shipping, there is a 'Warehouse' field, yet I cannot find that field on the category or product page. It appears this has not been added yet. If we had this added, we could simply have a 'Free' warehouse and problem solved!

Warehouse : You can restrict the shipping method on a warehouse, the warehouse management will coming in a future release of HikaShop.

So I kept playing around with this and found a solution. I set the weight on the product to '2 lbs' and put a restriction on the 'Free Shipping' shipping record for '1 lb' to '3 lbs' and set that as the first record. It works. As we are not using weight at all, this works for us at the moment but if, at some later time, we need to use 'weights' then we'll still need another way to not charge shipping for certain products. I still think a simply 'Charge Shipping (Y,N)' on the product and characteristic records is the best way to do this.

Thanks for your feed back, but note that I didn't asked you to add a price per product but only to block shipping methods for some products so your shipping prices will stay the same.
