Hi!

I have a site with thousands of products on it and I would like to change the order of the search results. I have the search results appear on a new page. Currently when searching for a product, the results come up in a strange order.

For example, if I search for "Corvette Z06 2006" I get this order:

1. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-S-XP8
2. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-XP10
3. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-XP12
4. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-XP20
5. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-XP24
...ETC....

I would like the all search results to be in the order that they are listed in the category in the back end:

1. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-1521
2. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-AX6
3. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-RP2
4. Corvette - 01/2006 - 12/2011 - Corvette Z06 - C6 - Front - CT1185-S-1521
...ETC...

Is this possible?

I am currently using "Search » Search Form or Search Results" menu item type and no matter what I change the setting to it still comes up in the same order.

What can I do?

Hi,

There is no option to do that, especially that the products results can come from different categories so sorting products from different categories using their ordering in their different categories doesn't make any sense.
The ordering is by default alphabetical, and joomla has an option to change it to the most recent, oldest or most popular, but that's it.

Fair enough. Thanks for the explanation.

I also realize that joomla has options to change the order. When I change these options (in the menu manager:edit menu item) nothing happens. The results stay the same. Can you point me in the right direction?

Which option are you talking about ? (could you do a screenshot of the page ?)
Because the ordering option of the menu items allows you to change the order of the menu items in the menus modules of Joomla. It's not linked to search results, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Here is the screenshot of what I was talking about. As you can see, there are basic options on the side for ordering.

I used this menu item option in order to have the results appear on a separate page. Maybe it only works for Joomla articles?

I don't know what this option does. I've tried it on my end and it doesn't change anything.
The ordering is controlled by the user himself on the search page on my end:
take.ms/eKo6i

I see that your search results page is quite different from the default and has apparently been customized in the template. Maybe that's why you don't see the dropdown ?
