how to configure the hikashop search function

hi,
is there any detailed documentation about the configuration of the hikashop search module? i tried to set it up using the search plugin and there is showing up the search button at the frontend of the shop but if i try to search a product there is no search result. could anyone help me on this problem?

thank you for your fast reply. but which one is the right search? i only have two possibilities to choose: "search" or "search index", i've choosen "search" which is described as "standard search layout" but it doesn't find anything! if i choose the second possibility, the search index i just get an error page that says:"It appears the page you were looking for doesn't exist. Sorry about that."!?? do i have to do further configurations or am i totally at the wrong place??
