Hello,

I have recently found out that I have a problem filtering by Brand. Any new product that I create isn't able to be filtered by 'brand'. The older products are fine.

The other filters also work as required.

I had previously moved my 'brands' into a product category, before moving them back. However, I have successfully added products since then, that are being filtered correctly. Could this have caused my problem?

I have had a look in the database tables and they 'category type' is 'manufacturer', so that seems ok?!?

This has only happened subsequent to updating to 2.5.0

Any help is much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Hal

Hi,

Could you provide more precise information on the issue ?
An example with what brand you choose, in which filter, on which page, what product is not showing in the results while it should and a screenshot of the settings of the product would be great.

Hello,

I'll try my best to explain using the screenshots. It's really strange, because some of the new products are showing, whilst others are not. The order by which the products are displayed is 'newest created'. I have also attached examples of a product that works with the filter and one that doesn't.

Many thanks,
Hal

Hi,

So I've checked your backend as I still had an access you had provided before and I found the issue:
It's because your filter is not a brand filter. It's a category filter. So it look for that brand in the categories of your products.
You see the other products in the results because you added that brand as a category in the other products.

So the filter is working just fine the way you configured it.

Ok, I see.

In this instance, it isn't possible for me to use the brand filter, as it won't allow me to select from "Mens Brands" or "Womens Brands". In the older version of hikashop, I was able to add the brands as categories for each product.

Is there any way to continue adding the brands as categories (as done previously)? Or is there a way to select a sub-category of "brands"?

Thanks,
Hal

Hi,

If you want to use brands as categories, then I don't see the point of using brands in the first place.
Just create a "brand" category under the "product category" main category and disable it.
Then, add your brands as categories under it and add them to the categories of your products.
Then you'll be able to use category filters on them.

Thanks for your response,

Why is it an option within hikashop to have brands?

For me, I do like to have the link on the product page to the "brand page". I think it's good for SEO.

I was just going to change the parent category to "categories", but I see that you can no longer do this. I have done it through the database and added the categories that way. Messy, but it works. At least I though so, but it seems to have broken my template... Any ideas?

Many thanks,
Hal

Hi,

Brands are indeed nice to have to link products together. I'm not sure if it changes much SEO wise though.
But you could easily do the same with categories since you can have many categories for a product.
The only reason why we have brands, and not just categories, is because people kept asking us to have brands as it was clearer for them coming from other ecommerce solutions where brands and categories were separate entities.

Hi Nicolas,

How can I have them link nicely together? i.e. how they link now :)

I have noticed another limitation in that you can't set a filter to work on a brand anymore (as it's not a category)... Can we go back to being able to select them as categories please?

Thanks,
Hal
