Hi,

we have products in over 50 different sizes for which we use a checkbox filter. Because our many sub-categories usually only have products in a few of these sizes, we use the dynamic display option to display only the available sizes.
Our problem with this is, as soon as you filter a particular size, all other sizes disappear in the filter and the user has no idea what other sizes would be available in this category. And we've noticed that users frequently think no other size is available because it is not displayed in the filter so they leave, which obviously is not what we want.

But having the dynamic display set to No is also not really an option, because it will always display our huge list of over 50 sizes while the majority of these sizes don't exist and users will often get to see "No products available", get annoyed and leave.

We're therefore very much looking for a third 'in-between' option, where hikashop does not display every single of our more than 50 filter sizes and also not just the selected filtered size(s), but instead will always display all available sizes in the current category. Hopefully it is clear what we mean, would it be possible to do/add something like this?

Thank you.

Hello,

Can you show us some screenshots of what you have and what you exactly want to achieve, so that we can have more information about it and eventually reproduce it on our end ?Thank you.

We wish you a nice day !
Kind regards,
Mohamed Thelji

Hi,

no problem, hopefully the attached images will help.
To recap: we need dynamic display otherwise we have far too many sizes, but when you filter a specific size on the front-end, all other sizes disappear in the filter, which is not what we want.

We understand this is how the dynamic display works, but over the years we've noticed this behaviour is not that intuitive with our users, they often don't realise they're filtering only a particular size and that other sizes are available if they reset the filter.
So especially in our case where all the different sizes are very important, it would be a great improvement if the filter can always display all sizes available in a particular category, even when one or more sizes are being filtered.

Thank you very much for looking into it and for any help.

Hi,

I see what you mean. You want that we add an option to restrict the available options of filters to only the selected choices from the products in the current category. That's something we could add in the future. However, it's not that easy to do as we need to change the load of the data for all the data types (for custom fields, for characteristics, for brands, etc. So it's on the todo list, but it's not something we'll be able to add as a quick modification for the next release.
What I could recommend for such situation is to split your "size" characteristic/custom field into different characteristics/custom fields so that you would actually have different size filters per categories.
That might not be practical in your situation, especially if you already have everything setup, but it might provide a good enough solution in some cases.

Hi,

that's exactly right.
We had also thought of creating different filters or custom fields for each category, but indeed we're afraid this might be too much work to keep up, manually having to add and keep track of all sizes in over 10 categories with new products frequently being added, but we'll see if we can make it work.
Thanks for your suggestion and looking forward to this additional filter option in the future.

Kind regards,
