Hi,

We are on the last laps of building our Hikashop webshop for guitarbuilding and guitar parts. I am preparing the imports from the suppliers. These will be imports of 2000+ records. They are supplied to me with Dutch and English columns/descriptions.

Is there any way of importing these so that the fields for Language 1 and Language 2 are filled with the right descriptions :) , or do I have to type everything over screen-by-2000+ screens for each of the products? :S

So far you've come up with good workable solutions for each for each of my questions. Can you tell me, is there a simple Hika-solution for this one also?

Cheers,
Marjoline

Hi,

Yes there is.
In your CSV you can have such columns:
product_description|nl-NL
for the product description for the Dutch language if the Dutch is not your main language (for the main language, you can just use product_description).
You can do the same for the product_name column.
This requires to have either Falang or JoomFish installed in order to handle the product translations.

That is wonderful!
Yes, we have Falang, so that shouldn' t be a problem.
I am going to test it today. I am thrilled, this just saves me sooo much work!
Thanks,
Marjoline

I have succeeded with my first attempt, after discovering that I cannot use all delimiters when I use this techniek. Sometimes it works with ; sometimes not, it always works with a simple comma, but this can cause problems because of the comma's in the descriptions. But in the end it worked, and I am very happy. Just one last question:

Can you tell me, can I translate in the same way all the other fields that get translated with Falang?
So for instance:

product_keywords = product_keywords|nl-NL
product_meta_description = product_meta_description|nl-NL
product_page_title = product_page_title|nl-NL
etc. ?

That would be magic!

Ah, ok, I have the answer. I just tried adding the above and lo and behold! It worked!
Hikashop is the greatest!

ps: Just one more little question: Is there anywhere we can find a listing of all the possible fields we can import?

If you export your products, you'll get a CSV with all the possible columns (minus the translation columns as it is not yet handled by the export process)

Ah, alas, not so unfortunately here. Please find attached my comparison between the Hika export fields and the hika import fields as it comes out our end..
Can you tell me how I can export in such a way as to have all the fields/columns? I mean including the missing fields (green) which are not in the export file but which are listed in the permitted columns listing?
In the third column I have listed all the fields that I hoped would be permitted as foreign language fields. I hope my assumptions are correct.
Cheers,
Marjoline

Hi,

The export of these fields is not supported yet by the export (like for the translation columns).
It would require developing the capability and it's not just 2 lines of code.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I understand that it could be quite a bit of work.
Are there any plans in the near future to develop this? Or do we need to find a way to link to the underlying MySQL tables to get the information out where we can use it?
I have been told this is not necessarily very easy due to security issues when linking directly from a local MS Access application to a remote MySQL database.
This is why the complete export file functionality would be very welcome.
Kind regards,
Marjoline

I think it shouldn't be hard to add translation column to your export using MS Access.
Also you don't have to necessary connect to remote database.
You can use Akeeba Backup + Remote CLI + mysql command to clone your remote database to local environment using one click.

Hello,
I tried to import multilangual records this way.
I have falang and all the settings are ok.
When I import the normal file without the extra columns it all goes well.
When I try to import the extended file with the translations coliumns for german, englisch and french, I get a whole page with red remarks and nothing is imported.
I attach the two files.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

I don't see any problem with the columns for the languages. However there are problems with the price data and a problem with an extra column with a | for the products:
